About The Role
Hippo is recruiting for intermediate consultants in content design.
Content designers ensure that people get the information they need, when and where they need it, in a format that’s right for them.
They work with user researchers, UX or interaction designers, and other members of a multidisciplinary team to identify what people need from an end-to-end service, and design content to meet those needs.
As an intermediate consultant specialising in content design, you’ll come to Hippo with strong content design skills and some experience of advising others on how to produce user-centred content.
Please note, we are looking for candidates who are seeking growth at this level (intermediate), therefore the advertised salary band is at the lower end of our full banding for this position, allowing for progression in the role.
As An Intermediate Content Design Consultant, You’ll
1. Help clients explore and solve problems using content design, people-centred design, and Agile methodologies.
2. Work in multidisciplinary teams to design services that meet identified user needs.
3. Champion inclusive approaches and styles within content design.
4. Participate in Hippo’s design communities of practice.
5. Establish and manage relationships with clients and stakeholders.
6. Support Hippo in recruitment, events, blog-writing, and winning new business.
7. Promote Hippo values.
About The Candidate
1. Accurate writing skills and the ability to refer to and contribute to style guides.
2. Knowledge of the user research process, and how to contribute to discussion guides, research reports, and take notes in research sessions.
3. The ability to put content strategy into practice.
4. Experience of designing accessible, inclusive content.
5. The proven ability to use data, web analytics, and research to plan, maintain, and evaluate content.
6. Experience of using a content management system.
7. The proven ability to make complicated information easy to understand.
8. Understanding of other roles within a multidisciplinary Agile team (e.g., UX designer, user researcher, product owner, delivery manager, developer).
9. Experience of sharing your work — through peer review, group content crits, community meet-ups, or show and tells.
10. Good consultancy skills (e.g., managing stakeholders and helping colleagues explore how content design can solve complex problems).
11. The ability to champion content design, people-centred design, and Agile methodologies.
It would be great if you had:
1. Working knowledge of the Government Digital Service (GDS) Digital Standard and Central Digital and Data Office (CDDO) assessments.
2. Experience of working with design patterns and content patterns.
3. An understanding of information architecture.
4. Experience of using content audits to implement a content maintenance plan.
5. Experience of using design software such as Miro, Figma, Sketch, or the GOV.UK prototyping kit.
6. Experience of Agile ways of working through the project cycle (Discovery, Alpha, Beta, live).
7. Experience in producing technical content where appropriate, research, work with subject matter experts, pair writing.
