Engineering Manager – Platform
We’re looking for an Engineering Manager to lead a team of 5‑8 Platform Engineers in a growing, tech‑led organisation. You’ll bring strong technical foundations in DevOps, Platform, or backend, and you will act as a line manager and servant‑leader while focusing on strategic delivery and stakeholder engagement.
What you’ll be doing
* Lead an engineering team, coaching and driving career development, setting objectives, and fostering team happiness.
* Engage partners or suppliers on integrations and complex systems.
* Own engineering delivery with Product Managers, ensuring productive processes, clear communication, high‑value projects and high‑quality software.
* Grow the team—hire new colleagues, plan needs, balance permanent staff, contractors and agency work.
* Identify and implement new technologies and tools to keep the organisation ahead of the curve.
* Champion best practices in platform engineering and DevOps, promoting code quality, security, maintainability and scalability.
* Collaborate on the technology roadmap, participate in decisions on platforms and tools, and shape the software development process.
What you won’t be doing
* Working in a siloed environment with no freedom to make decisions.
* Working in a place where you can’t see the impact of your expertise.
Requirements
* Experience leading an engineering team in a rapidly scaling environment, including diverse skillsets and possibly other managers.
* Strong mentoring and coaching abilities that help engineers grow technical and leadership skills.
* Hands‑on engineering background with ability to arbitrate technical discussions.
* Ability to break down complex tasks into actionable work items and contribute to code when needed.
* Experience with agile methodologies and continuous delivery, infrastructure‑as‑code and modern DevOps techniques in cloud environments (AWS, Azure, GCP).
* Proven track record of hiring, managing and growing platform teams.
* People‑first, collaborative and empathetic leadership style.
* Experience delivering and maintaining consumer web or mobile products and working with sensitive personal data in secure environments.
* Prior experience as a hands‑on engineer.
Benefits
* Salary from £110 000 per annum.
* Generous Pension Scheme – employer contributions up to 12 %.
* 30 days holiday plus bank holidays.
* Enhanced parental leave.
* Cycle‑to‑Work scheme (25‑39 % salary sacrifice).
* Home & Tech savings – up to 8 % off on IKEA and Currys products.
* £1 000 Employee Referral Bonus.
* Well‑being support – mental health first aiders, 24/7 online GP and Employee Assistance Programme.
* Flexible and remote‑working arrangements from a central London office.
