Job Role & Key Responsibilities
The Lead Engineer will act as the deputy to the Engineering Manager, providing leadership and technical direction to the engineering team. This role plays a key part in driving operational performance, improving equipment efficiency, and embedding a strong safety and continuous improvement culture across the site.
Key Responsibilities:
* Lead, support and mentor the engineering team with hands-on technical guidance
* Deputise for the Engineering Manager, including oversight of activities and budgets when required
* Ensure planned preventative maintenance, corrective works, SSOWs and engineering procedures are consistently followed
* Work closely with Production to improve equipment performance and Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE)
* Support installation, testing, operation and maintenance of all site equipment and facilities
* Promote compliance with health, safety, quality and environmental standards
* Support training for engineers and operators on new and existing equipment
* Lead continuous improvement initiatives, including sustainability and waste/energy reduction projects
* Source parts and machinery through approved suppliers
Qualifications
The Ideal Candidate will have:
* Proven experience in industrial maintenance or production environments
* Previous supervisory or management experience
* Strong leadership, communication and influencing skills
* Ability to build effective working relationships across teams
* A proactive, analytical mindset with strong problem-solving skills
* Financial awareness, including budgeting and forecasting experience
* Strong IT skills, particularly Microsoft Office
Desirable Skills
* NEBOSH, IOSH or QHSE-related qualifications
* Experience in energy and sustainability management
* Background in continuous improvement programmes
* Relevant engineering qualification (Degree, HND, HNC, NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds or time-served apprenticeship)
* Bi-lingual capability
