Introduction/Background:
The team provides high-quality support to students with a range of learning difficulties and disabilities, including D/deaf students, those with Autistic Spectrum Disorders, Physical Access needs, Learning Disabilities, Visual Impairment, and Language Impairment.
Primary Purpose:
Support students with learning difficulties and disabilities to access the curriculum and achieve their programmes by fostering independence.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Collaborate with subject staff and assessors under the guidance of the Learning Support Manager to support students in various environments, including reading materials, note-taking, using enabling technologies, and developing language and metacognitive skills.
2. Empower students to meet their personalised learning outcomes, including those outlined in Education, Health and Care Plans.
3. Adapt learning resources, such as enlarging texts or modifying language, to facilitate access.
4. Promote independence and inclusion, supporting progress towards learning goals.
5. Provide support outside the classroom, including during breaks, trips, and off-campus study programs.
6. Maintain accurate records of support activities, attendance, and student progress.
7. Participate in team meetings and contribute to support improvements.
8. Assist with delivering therapy interventions like physiotherapy and speech therapy, following professional guidance.
9. Review support needs with students and participate in annual reviews with parents and external professionals as invited.
10. Undertake training and development as agreed with the manager.
Qualifications:
* General education
* GCSE English and Maths or equivalent at grade C/4 or above
Related Experience:
Recent experience supporting individuals with special educational needs.
Additional Requirements:
* Willingness to represent the department at welcome events.
* Openness to relevant training.
* Flexibility to work across all college faculties as needed.
