The Lancashire and South Cumbria MND Care and Research Centre are delighted to be the proud recipients of a 4 year grant awarded by the Motor Neurone Disease (MND) Association to appoint a Lead Research Nurse/s (full time or job share considered). The role will include facilitating the delivery of commercial and non-commercial research trials in Motor Neurone Disease within the neurosciences department, and to integrate with the existing research team to further develop research opportunities, contributing to improving and changing future care for people affected by MND.
The successful candidate will join the MND Association Research Nurse Network which will bridge the gaps between researchers, care teams and people with MND. It will take research and trials directly to people with MND through their local Care Centres and Networks, ensuring access to research is an integral part of their holistic care.
The post holder will help people with MND navigate the clinical trial process, by identifying research opportunities that patients are eligible for, providing information and explaining what is involved. Collaboration across the Network will support the sharing of outcomes, so successful research can be put into practice quickly.
Main duties of the job
You will work as a Lead Research Nurse within an established MND team: this will involve recruiting patient participants into clinical trials, and carrying out trial activity in line with the ethically approved protocol and in accordance with legislation. You will provide leadership skills and specialist knowledge to assist the smooth running of clinical research trials, support allied healthcare professionals and staff members to deliver on a wide range of clinical trials. You will be responsible for meeting the delivery of clinical research for MND related trials, and for continuing, supporting and raising recruitment into MND studies, including commercial and non-commercial studies. You will work closely within the MND Association and support the development of the National Research Nurse Network. This role may involve visiting patients in their own home and attending clinics and support groups around the catchment area of Lancashire and South Cumbria therefore the ability to travel is a requirement.

2. First degree in a relevant subject or demonstrable experience
