Mechanical Project Design Engineer - Water | Jacobs, Manchester, United Kingdom
Responsibilities
* Facilitate value engineering and buildability workshops, delivering innovative sustainable design solutions contributing to design management, scheduling, risk management, change control and financial forecasting
* Participate in value engineering and buildability workshops, embedding constructability and commissioning requirements into the design to deliver innovative and sustainable design solutions
* Develop feasibility studies, outline and detailed designs, and provide construction support
* Produce design layouts, technical specifications, datasheets, and P&IDs for mechanical systems
* Select and specify mechanical equipment (e.g., pumps, blowers, screens, valves, chemical dosing plant, odour control)
* Oversee technical delivery, ensuring compliance with industry regulatory and safety standards
* Mentor and guide colleagues and peers, supporting their technical and personal development
* Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams (civil, electrical, process engineers) to deliver integrated solutions
Qualifications
* Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chartered Member of IMechE
* Demonstrable progressive experience in mechanical engineering, with expertise in detailed design and design-and-build execution for water, wastewater and bioresources non infrastructure projects
* A sound knowledge in and experience of mechanical engineering principles, mechanical equipment and systems used in water/wastewater treatment
* Familiarity with UK water sector regulations and safety protocols
* Robust understanding of current health, safety and welfare legislation
* Good stakeholder management skills able to foster a culture of knowledge sharing and continuous improvement
* Extensive experience with design software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit, BIM)
