Head of Market & Competitive Intelligence
Location: London – Hybrid Working (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday in office) Overview
We are seeking an outstanding individual to lead our Market & Competitive Intelligence function within the European Executive Office. The role sits at the center of the European business and is responsible for shaping how the European Leadership Team and Boards understand market reality, competitive dynamics and emerging industry shifts. It will define the external insight agenda; determine what matters, how it should be analysed, and how it is synthesized for executive decision-makers. While the position does not own strategy or execution, it plays a critical role in shaping strategic choices by grounding decisions in rigorous, forward‑looking market intelligence. Key Responsibilities
European Market & Competitive Intelligence
Define and prioritise the firm’s market and competitor intelligence agenda. Lead analysis of competitors’ strategy, product evolution, pricing, distribution and business model shifts. Monitor industry structure trends including flows, fee dynamics, regulatory developments and ecosystem disruption. Build and sustain a strong external network to source insight, challenge internal perspectives and identify emerging themes ahead of market consensus. Identify emerging risks and opportunities across a 12–36 month horizon. Translate competitive and market developments into clear, forward‑looking implications for Vanguard’s strategy, positioning and operating choices in Europe.
Analytical Frameworks & Insight Architecture
Develop structured competitor profiles, ecosystem maps and thematic deep dives. Maintain disciplined horizon scanning to reduce strategic surprise. Leverage advanced analytics and AI-enabled tools to enhance competitive monitoring, synthesis and insight generation.
Executive & Board-level Synthesis
Curate market and competitive content for Executive Committee and Board materials. Proactively shape leadership dialogue by surfacing emerging competitive trends and framing second- and third-order implications. Ensure a coherent, externally grounded enterprise narrative, raising the clarity and consistency of market-related insight across the organisation. Provide concise briefing materials to support senior decision-making.
