We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate individual to join our team as a Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCO).
This role involves supporting the educational and behavioural development of young people ages 13-25 through specialised teaching methods, behaviour management, and personalised support strategies.

Creativity Works Preston is a registered charity established to meet the needs of young people not in employment, education, or training (NEET), or those who struggle in mainstream education. CWP provides a professional, positive, and inclusive environment, supporting individuals with their education, training, and personal growth. The focus is on social inclusion, vocational learning, and supporting those with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).
Purpose of the Role
The SENCO is responsible for leading and managing all aspects of education for learners with SEND at CWP. This includes students on the SEND register, those with specific learning difficulties, social, emotional, and behavioural needs, medical needs, 'Looked After' children, students eligible for free school meals and any student identified as having previously received inadequate or compromised education.
Accountability
The SENCO reports to the Centre Manager and Compliance & Operations Manager.
Key Responsibilities
* Promote and Oversee Inclusion: Assist in the promotion, direction, and oversight of high standards of teaching, learning, and student achievement through effective inclusion for learners with SEND.
* Policy and Practice: Be consistent in the delivery of all CWP policies and practices, ensuring compliance with statutory requirements and best practice in SEND.
* SEND Provision: Manage, develop, and maintain high-quality SEND provision, including the development of the newly established EHCP (Education, Health and Care Plan) provision.
* Identification and Support: Oversee the identification of students with SEND and ensure appropriate support is in place, including for those with social, emotional, and behavioural difficulties, medical needs, and those from vulnerable groups.
* Staff Collaboration: Work with staff to ensure all learners' needs are met, providing guidance, training, and support to tutors and support staff.
* Liaison: Liaise with parents/carers, external agencies, and local authorities to secure appropriate support and ensure effective communication.
* Monitoring and Reporting: Monitor the progress of SEND learners, maintain accurate records, and report on outcomes to the Centre Manager and other stakeholders.
* Safeguarding and Wellbeing: Ensure safeguarding procedures are followed and that the wellbeing of all learners is prioritised.
* Administration: Lead on administrative duties related to SEND, including maintaining the SEND register, EHCP documentation, and supporting compliance and quality assurance processes.
Person Specification
Essential:
* Experience working with young people with SEND, preferably in alternative or vocational education settings.
* Knowledge of current SEND legislation and best practice.
* Excellent organisational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
* Ability to work collaboratively with staff, students, families, and external agencies.
* Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of young people.
Desirable:
* Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent.
* National Award for SEN Coordination (NASENCO) or willingness to work towards it.
* Experience in managing EHCP processes and working with NEET learners.
