The Older Peoples Medicine Department at Leeds Teaching Hospital Trust is a dynamic, forward-thinking team with a strong track record of clinical excellence, education and innovation. The successful candidate will join a team of 31 Consultant colleagues, supported by a team of resident doctors of all grades, Advanced Clinical Practitioners and 4 Physician Assistants, who are committed to delivering high-quality care to a diverse patient population. This is an exciting opportunity to join the Older Peoples Medicine Team. Both posts will contribute to acute care for older people and general geriatrics along with General medicine. One post has the opportunity to focus on Orthogeriatrics and bone health including inpatient orthogeriatric care, perioperative optimisation, rehabilitation planning and involvement in the development of integrated frailty pathways. The other post will work closely with Leeds Community Healthcare working within our Home Ward and in proactive community work. The department is actively engaged in service transformation aligned with the Trusts Hospital of the Future programme, offering opportunities for leadership, innovation and teaching. Main duties of the job
The successful applicant should possess MRCP (or equivalent) and should be included on the Specialist Register or within 6 months of CCT at the time of interview, if currently within a training programme within the UK. In accordance with the consultant appointment regulations, all other categories of doctors must be on the Specialist Register.
Applicants should have established skills in Geriatric Medicine and Internal Medicine and its related specialties including Orthogeriatrics and Community Geriatrics. A strong commitment to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and a research interest is desirable.
Consideration will be given to applicants who wish to work full or part time and those wishing to job share.

In relation to this post, the post will be based between St James University Hospital and the Leeds General Infirmary.
2. OBJECTIVES OF THE POST
2.1 To deliver high quality evidenced based care to patients with frailty needs presenting to LTHT for inpatient or outpatient care.
2.2 To work with the Orthogeriatic and orthopaedic teams to provide evidence based high quality care for older people presenting with a fracture, with particular focus on Fractured neck of femur, perioperative medicine and bone health.
2.3 To link with consultant colleagues in other specialist teams within the Trust in particular the emergency department, other medical and acute surgical specialties and with colleagues in primary care and those at the interface to provide excellent care for older people living with frailty.
2.4 To work with colleagues in Older Peoples Medicine to deliver acute on call (currently 1 in 20) This includes out of hours cover including ward rounds for acute admissions of older people.
2.5 To contribute to research, teaching, and new developments within the management of acute illness in older people. The post holder will be encouraged to facilitate and contribute to the current clinical research programs on going in the department.

Essential
* Should have completed a recognised training programme in Geriatric Medicine and Internal medicine.
* Evidence of the ability to carry out medical research.
* Experience in training undergraduate medical students and postgraduate doctors.
* Experience of participation in regular clinical audit.
Desirable
* Previous experience of supervising research by junior staff.
* Previous attendance on Appraisal Techniques and Small Group Teaching Workshops.
Qualifications
Essential
* MBChB (or equivalent)
* MRCP and SCE in Geriatric Medicine or equivalent qualification.
* Hold full GMC Registration with a license to practice.
* YOUR GMC NUMBER MUST BE CLEARLY STATED IN YOUR APPLICATION FORM.
* Eligibility to work in the UK.
* Is up to date and fit to practise safely.

* Relevant higher degree.

* Must be able to demonstrate a high level of clinical experience and competence in all areas of Geriatric Medicine.
