Purolite is seeking a Chemist who will work within the UK RD&E team and contribute to the pipeline of innovative product launches by conducting new product development/innovation based in Purolite’s high-tech synthetic RD&E laboratories. This role typically reports to the project/program leader or more senior technical leader.

What you’ll do:
8. Work within the New Product Development/Innovation team – dedicated to growing the product portfolio of novel high-performing bioprocessing resins.
9. Work alongside fellow NPD group members, Application, and Process Development teams to develop robust and reproducible processes which can commercialized.
10. Perform synthesis, functionalization, and characterization of resins as part of the NPI process, from proof of concept through to optimization and scale-up/process development support.
11. Perform optimisation exercises to improve process efficiency and reduce costs for existing processes where required.
12. Maintain accurate and detailed records of the research and development conducted, in addition to monthly reporting of updates and concise scientific R&D Report writing.
13. Perform literature searches of research papers, patents and publications to keep up to date with latest developments.
14. Assist with maintaining the required level of Safety, Health & Environment (SHE) within the laboratory including upkeep of SHE databases (. COSHH, SDS, Risk Assessments) and SHE reporting.
15. Work under general supervision on assigned tasks or portions of projects.
What you'll need:
16. A degree or advanced degree in chemistry or related discipline with up to two years of experience, preferably within an industrial setting.
17. The ability to:
18. Contribute to the research and development of differentiated technology, products, processes and systems.
19. Understand set goals and targets and develop associated solutions through R&D work.
20. Manipulate chemicals and equipment safely for synthetic reactions whilst following reaction procedures accurately.
21. Carry out sample material characterization, analyse data and interpret results with a view to guiding next steps of the research project.
22. Demonstrate initiative and open mindedness to identify and try novel and different approaches.
23. IT literate with experience using Microsoft Office, literature sources and chemistry related software.
24. Good communication skills are required, with the ability to liaise effectively with people at all levels.
25. Be highly self-motivated and work with the minimum supervision, whilst at the same time being a strong team player.
