Offer description

Senior Peer Support Worker (BAND 4; 1.6 WTE; Fixed Term: 1 year in first instance)

Stigma and discrimination can have a serious impact on the wellbeing of people who experience psychosis and can impact personal recovery. Peer‑delivered interventions that are designed to support people with psychosis who have been personally impacted by stigma show promise, but to date most trials have been small and have focused on feasibility rather than efficacy of the peer interventions.

Following the success of our NIHR funded feasibility trial, Let’s Talk 1, the Let’s Talk 2 Trial has now been funded by the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) through the Efficacy and Mechanisms Evaluation (EME) programme.

Let’s Talk 2 is a 32‑month randomised controlled trial, jointly led by Professor Tony Morrison and Dr Melissa Pyle at the Psychosis Research Unit. The trial builds on the success of Let’s Talk 1 and evaluates the benefits of a peer‑delivered intervention called Let’s Talk, which aims to aid mental health disclosure decision‑making.

Responsibilities

* Deliver the peer‑delivered intervention Let’s Talk to people with psychosis who are experiencing internalised stigma.
* Work independently and autonomously, handling a diverse caseload across the Trust footprint.
* Collaborate closely with service users, Early Intervention in Psychosis Services and Community Mental Health Teams.
* Travel within the North East London area to support users.
* Receive supervision from Dr Lisa Wood, Consultant Clinical Psychologist and site lead for Let’s Talk 2.

Qualifications

* Lived experience of psychosis and experience working in a relevant peer support role.
* Ability to work independently, autonomously and uphold peer values of supporting and promoting recovery.
* Commitment to hope, optimism, learning through lived experience and a strengths‑based approach.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Employment Terms

The role is fixed‑term for 12 months initially, with a basic salary that attracts a 15 % High Cost Area Supplement (p.a. pro‑rata). The role is not eligible for sponsorship and you must have the right to work in the UK at the time of application.

Induction and Probation

All new starters join the Trust on the first Monday of each month and undertake a comprehensive induction of up to two weeks, including mandatory training and systems training. The role is subject to a probationary period, unless you are an internal applicant exempt from the probationary period.

Application

We welcome applications even if you do not meet all the criteria listed in the person specification. The advert closes Monday 2 Feb 2026. For further information please contact Dr Lisa Wood at NELFT.
