Offer description

We are recruiting a part-time Tobacco Dependency Advisor who will be based at Norfolk and Norwich University Hospitals. We are seeking highly motivated individuals to assist in launching and establishing a new Stop Smoking Service which has been developed as part of the NHS Long Term Plan. A commitment to working collaboratively with community stakeholders, service users and carers, to help reduce health inequalities across Norfolk and Waveney is essential. The Tobacco Dependency Advisor role will contribute to tackling health inequalities through promoting and supporting Smokefree interventions at the three Acute Hospitals across Norfolk and Waveney. This role will focus on engaging inpatients to adopt healthy lifestyles through providing tobacco dependence treatment in line with NICE Guidelines. The role will be based at Norfolk and Norwich University Hospitals in Norfolk and Waveney, with expectation of covering the other Acute Hospitals in exceptional circumstances to ensure continuity of service. You will be joining an existing Tobacco Dependency Team that’s hosted by QEH on behalf of the system, who are currently delivering the Maternity Tobacco Dependency Treatment Pathway and soon to be delivering the Inpatient Tobacco Dependency Treatment Pathway. You will be responsible for establishing and maintaining communication with inpatients who smoke, in which good interpersonal skills are essential to developing Treatment Care plans, before referring into community for continued support. You will be delivering evidence-based interventions that focus on behaviour change, and licenced treatment aids of which training can be offered to enable delivery. There will be occasional weekend and evening work required for the role. There’s never been a more exciting time to join TeamQEH. We’re working on a once in a generation opportunity to build a new state-of-the-art hospital to open in 2030 and we are also carrying out on one of the biggest pieces of digital transformation work we’ve ever undertaken. Our new electronic patient record (EPR) will replace paper-based patient records from 2026 and will lead to better, safer, joined-up care at The Queen Elizabeth Hospital and beyond. At The QEH we provide a comprehensive range of specialist, acute, obstetrics and community-based services to around 331,000 people across west and north Norfolk, North Cambs and South Lincs. We are an ambitious organisation that upholds our values of kindness, wellness and fairness. We strive for continuous quality improvement, recently demonstrated in our 2024 CQC maternity inspection rating our services as ‘Good’, and we are proud to be a place to learn and grow through recognised learning and apprenticeships. We recognise and reward our 4,000 staff and volunteers, priding ourselves on a community atmosphere and positive team spirit. We have approx. 530 beds across 33 wards and have newly built education and training facilities, a range of modern award-winning centres alongside a talented team of people ready to give you a warm welcome. We love working here and think you will too. For further information about this post, please refer to the attached Job Description and Person Specification This advert closes on Tuesday 17 Mar 2026
