Overview
We have an opportunity for a qualified nurse (RN, RSCN, RMN, or RLDN) to work within our multidisciplinary team of paediatricians, nurses and support workers, delivering high‑quality care. We are seeking highly skilled and competent nurses to train to become Clinical Nurse Specialists in the community paediatric service.
The post holder will need extensive experience within a multi‑agency team, an existing non‑medical prescribing qualification or willingness to obtain this in the first year, and preferably a post‑registration Specialist Community Practitioner qualification – Health Visiting or School Nursing – along with consolidated experience as a band 6 practitioner. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead assessment, diagnosis and support of children with neuro‑developmental disorders, including ADHD and ASD.
* Independently undertake assessment & diagnosis of ADHD for a defined cohort, and initiate and manage pharmacological treatment, including independent prescribing.
* Contribute to redesign and development of services and pathways delivered from the Child Development Centre.
* Conduct clinical interviews, medical and developmental histories, observational assessments and interpret standardised assessments to make diagnoses.
* Discuss and agree assessment outcomes with children/young people, carers and other health professionals, promoting health education and self‑management.
* Start, monitor and adjust pharmacological treatments and liaise with GPs in line with Shared Care Protocols.
* Provide specialist advice in keeping with NICE guidance and local guidelines, optimise treatment and contribute to transition planning into adult services.
* Plan workload, prioritise tasks and liaise with other services for coordinated care; develop and manage care pathways.
* Participate in specific projects, trust‑wide initiatives and service development activities.
* Provide monthly activity data and contribute to audits or research findings to improve services.
* Review caseload, referral, assessment and review criteria and develop a nurse‑led service providing efficient pathways.
* Deliver specialist nursing expertise across professional boundaries, streamline care pathways and support referrals to other professionals.
* Advise and support parents, school staff and others in managing children’s complex needs, safeguarding and risk management.
* Contribute to parent educational courses and to the implementation of policies, guidelines and clinical pathways.
Qualifications
* Qualified registered nurse (RN, RSCN, RMN or RLDN).
* Experience working with children and within a multi‑agency team.
* Non‑medical prescriber qualification or willingness to undertake within the first year.
* Post‑registration Specialist Community Practitioner qualification (Health Visiting or School Nursing) preferred.
* Consolidated experience as a band 6 practitioner.
* Excellent communication, interpersonal skills and autonomous clinical judgement.
