Medivet East Midlands Referrals isseeking a compassionate, skilled, and attentive NightVeterinary Nurse to join our dedicated overnight team.
In this role, you will provide high-quality nursing care to hospitalised patients during night hours. You will be responsible for patient monitoring, treatment administration, and ensuring seamless communication between day and night teams.
This role is a 5 nights on 9 nights off pattern, 6:00pm – 7:30am.
At East Midlands Referrals, we provide advanced orthopaedic, neurosurgical, soft tissue surgery and internal medicine to companion animals across the Midlands and beyond. Our staff include three advanced veterinary practitioners, five RVN’s, one SVN, two PCA’s and two CCA’s and our lovely cleaner.
Our well-equipped clinic offers x-ray, arthroscopy, computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), and ultrasonography as part of our surgical and medical referral services.

Role Accountabilities:

In this role you will:
* Provide overnight care for hospitalised patients (internal medicine, neurology and orthopaedic)
* Administer medications (IV, IM, SQ, PO) and perform treatments as prescribed by the veterinarian.
* Monitor vital signs, assess patient condition, and report changes to the veterinarian promptly.
* Perform diagnostic sample collection (blood, urine, faeces), place IV catheters, and run in-house lab tests as needed.
* Maintain accurate and detailed patient records.
* Assist in emergency procedures and patient triage when needed.
* Communicate effectively with Veterinarians, RVN’s and client care teams to ensure continuity of care.
* Provide compassionate, low-stress handling of patients during overnight stays.
* Ensure a clean, safe, and well-stocked working environment.
* Support end-of-life care and client communication, if applicable during overnight hours.
Your Skills and Experience
* RCVS registered Veterinary Nurse
* Previous experience working in a veterinary hospital, preferably in a referral setting
* Full clean UKDriver’s License
* Ability to work independently with confidence and sound clinical judgment.
* Comfortable working overnight hours
* Advanced training or certification in emergency/critical care (e.g., VTS-ECC) would be beneficial
