About the Role
We’re looking for an experienced Senior Project Controller to join our team based from our in Ampthill, Bedfordshire. This role benefits from our 4xFlex working pattern, offering a 4-day working week Monday - Thursday and hybrid working. Onsite working days are Monday and Tuesday, with Wednesday and Thursday worked from home subject to business needs.
Individuals from Project Planning / Project Analyst / Cost Controlling backgrounds with the characteristics and capabilities to become a Project Manager will be provided with the necessary support and development opportunities to fulfil your potential. Accountable to Control Account Manager and ultimately the Programme Manager you will be responsible for monitoring and controlling of scope, resourcing and cost on assigned projects. Scope, resource and cost planning, monitoring, cost reporting and Earned Value Analysis will be performed using SAP and other tools, which may include Primavera P6 or MS Project
The Senior Project Controller will be responsible for, but not limited to, the following:
1. Budgeting and managing the resource requirements on the projects and programmes, including managing and developing estimates at complete (EAC)s; and resource planning, taking into account resources required to support a large number of activities.
2. Raising Purchase Requisitions
3. Produce executive‑grade dashboards and narrative‑rich presentations for Board & Customer steering committees, turning complex data into actionable insights.
4. Consolidating data / analysis for the Control Account Managers for review and approval.
5. Review supplier quotes against the plan to manage material forecast.
6. Lead the monthly Variance Analysis Reporting Cycle (as required) on a monthly basis to cover variance at completion information with corrective actions. Work with the Programme Manager(s) and other stakeholders to implement the corrective actions to re-align the work to the baseline and budgets.
7. Reporting and presenting output of the Financial data to PM highlight issues that may impact schedule or cost due to issues arising.
8. Co-ordinate with Programme Finance and PM to ensure that all Programmes’ budgets are fully planned and that customer and business requirements are met.
9. Assist in the preparation of bids and proposals, ensuring they meet the customer requirement.
10. Assist in the preparation and delivery of Executive Presentation Panel reviews.
11. Drive the Baseline Change control process; author formal change requests, and cascade updates to all stakeholders.
12. Monitor and Control risks and opportunities within scope of work and request timely drawdown of reserves with justification.
13. Monitor the PM reserves / plan what it can be used for and request approval from the PM if required.
14. Own the Weekly/Monthly/Ad-Hoc business rhythm & cadence to the team.
15. Analysis of Actuals vs Plan for deployed personnel, highlight to the PM any challenges to the analysis. Checking resource levels/smooth resource levels based on staff availability/deployment for Resource Management Tool.
16. Help with looking for better ways to generate information for the team (Tableau/Fuse/P6/PowerPoint) and drive the adoption of a single source of truth.
17. Generate & deliver P6‑driven insights to CAMs, Finance and Programme steering, translating performance into strategic decisions.

Required skills, qualifications and experience
18. Experience as a Project Controller, Project Analyst or similar role in a PMO (Project Management Office) environment
19. Defence sector experience preferred (or similar Engineering environment)
20. Able to demonstrate a strong analytical mindset, with the ability to interpret data and translate insights into effective actions.
21. Working knowledge of and experience in SAP cost planning and reporting.
22. Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills.
23. Ability to quickly adapt to new tools, systems, and processes.
24. The ability to work with a technical and skill-diverse team.
25. Senior stakeholder engagement
Desirable skill
26. An understanding of business finance including Orders, Sales, EBIT and Cash and the importance of managing and controlling programmes in order to achieve successful financial outcomes.
27. Experience in the development, maintenance and control of complex event-driven project plans and their impact on budgets and financial performance
