Job Description

AIMS AND PURPOSE OF THE JOB

To be responsible for flexible and proactive delivery of an agreed teaching programme in Business and other related areas. In addition to teaching, to undertake a range of administrative and developmental duties that contributes to improving standards and achievements and the learner experience

ACCOUNTABILITIES

To each across a range of programmes in Business and associated areas.

To develop the curriculum in Business and associated areas.

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

To take an active part in the recruitment of learners, providing appropriate advice and guidance.

To teach up to the hours stated within your contact, (850 hours for a full time position or pro rata for fractional posts), across any of the campuses.

To deliver high quality teaching and learning by:

-providing learners with a clear and coherently planned learning and assessment experience;

-effectively managing and monitoring the learning process;

-proving regular assessment opportunities;

-providing timely and constructive feedback;

To work within the staff team and Personal Tutor to support learners to achieve their personal goals.

To support the development of learners wider skills including employability, English and mathematics within the context of their vocational programme

To raise learners awareness of the skills and knowledge needed to be able to be live and work and be successful in modern Britain.

To actively develop and use new technology in teaching, learning and assessment to engage learners and support their digital skill development.

Produce and develop teaching resources to support your delivery including schemes of work and lesson plans, individual learning plans, assessment materials and schedules as appropriate to the curriculum area.

Provide timely, developmental and constructive feedback to help learners improve their work and reach their full potential.

1. Keep accurate and timely information about learner attendance, achievement and progress and ensure this is recorded in line with college systems and processes and adheres to GDPR and data protection regulations.
2. To liaise and work with colleagues and CRQ Leader/Director to address issues with learner attendance, behaviour and engagement in order to maximise progress and achievements.
3. To attend curriculum team meetings and contribute to the college and departmental quality assurance including internal verification and standardisation
4. Contribute to self-assessment processes in order to support the development and improvement the curriculum
5. Attend college marketing events and proactively promote the curriculum area and college
6. Support learner progress evenings and liaise with parents and carers to provide repots of learner progress and support parents’ evenings and other events within the curriculum area as agreed with the CRQ Leader.
7. Where appropriate, liaison with other departments (for example timetabling, examinations and MIS).

To ensure safe working practices across the programme area.

GENERAL

To commit to the safeguarding and promotion of the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults

To participate in the College’s Performance Management Scheme and attend such training events as are necessary to enable him/her to carry out the duties of the job description.

To continually improve teaching, learning and assessment through proactive CPD and sharing best practice.

To actively participate in the College’s Quality System, including quality improvement strategies and initiatives.

To undertake such other duties as may be assigned commensurate with the grade and purpose of the post.

To take reasonable care for the health and safety of him/her and for others affected by his/her work.

To actively support College Safeguarding, Equality and Diversity policies.

CONDITIONS OF SERVICE – Academic staff

The appointment is subject to the Conditions of Service for Academic Staff. The work pattern of a Lecturer is not necessarily linked to the traditional academic year.

All successful applicants will undergo the following checks:

SALARY

The salary range for this post is from £25,599 to £39,725 per annum/pro rata. Starting salary will be dependent upon experience and qualifications. Once you have successfully passed your probationary period, your salary will increase within the salary band on an annual incremental basis, until you reach the top of the salary scale. Increments are in August.

TEACHING QUALIFICATION

Applicants are required to hold an appropriate teaching qualification or be willing to undertake and gain the Certificate in Education and Training within 2 years of their appointment. Successful applicants will be required to attend the course on-site as the College delivers the course in-house.

Please note– whilst obtaining a teaching qualification is a contractual requirement, the College reviews its CPD budget on an annual basis regarding availability of funds, and cannot therefore guarantee that newly appointed staff will receive either part or full funding for the course fees. However, student loan facilities are available.

MATHS AND ENGLISH

All staff are required to have a minimum level 2 qualification in both English and Maths. If you are not already in receipt of one or both of these qualifications, you will be expected to obtain it (them) during your employment at the College.

SAFEGUARDING

The College is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults, and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.

All newly appointed staff will be required to undertake safeguarding training following their appointment.

Heart of Worcestershire College adheres to the Department of Education’s guidance on ‘Keeping children safe in Education’. As part of your induction, you will be required to read and understand part 1 of this document.

VALIDATION OF QUALIFICATIONS

The College will undertake qualification validation by writing to the appropriate educational institute. Only those qualifications which are essential for the post will be followed up.

HOURS OF WORK

The hours of work will be based on 14.8hours per week,. Actual hours of work to be agreed with the manager.

ANNUAL LEAVE

The post carries 37 annual leave days with an additional eight public bank holidays plus a further five concessionary days as ‘leave to be taken at the Principal’s discretion’. Annual leave will be pro rata if part time.

Please note that only in exceptional circumstances, with your Directors permission, will staff be able to take more than 3 consecutive weeks of leave in any leave year.

PENSION SCHEME

The College operates an occupational pension scheme, namely the ‘Teachers Pensions’.

PROBATIONARY PERIOD

All newly appointed staff have to serve a 9-month probationary period. During the probationary period you will have to complete the Corporate staff induction, a Teaching and Learning Induction session if you deliver learning and additional mandatory courses on: Equality & Diversity session, Keeping Children safe in Education, Safeguarding Training session, Prevent, GDPR, Cyber Security and Health & Safety training session. Failure to complete these will prevent you from successfully completing your probation.

REFERENCES

All candidates have to have 2 satisfactory references.

LOCATION

The successful applicant will be based at the Worcester Campus but may be required to work at other locations from time to time.

Having a criminal record will not necessarily bar you from working with us.This will depend on the nature of the position and the circumstances and background of any offences.

DISCLOSURE & BARRING CHECK

All successful applicants will be required to complete and pay for a Disclosure & Barring Service check. The costs of this check will be deducted from the applicants first salary payment from the College. The College adheres to the DBS Code of Practice and has policies covering the Recruitment of Ex-Offenders and the Secure Storage, Handling, Use, Retention and Disposal of Disclosures and Disclosure Information. Copies of these are available on request.

TRAINING

All successful applicants will be required to undertake all mandatory training and update sessions and any appropriate training and development as required, including Health and Safety.
