Overview
Speech and Language Therapist role at Lancashire & South Cumbria NHS Foundation Trust. The post is in Adults with Learning Disabilities within a Multidisciplinary Community Learning Disability Team (CLDT). The team delivers person-centred multi-disciplinary support for people with learning disabilities. The post involves working as part of a team of Speech and Language Therapists to deliver interventions addressing communication and dysphagia needs for adults referred to the team. The caseload includes work in the Pennine area (East Lancashire) with opportunities to collaborate with Highly Specialist SLTs in other LD service localities to develop knowledge and skills in targeted clinical areas including dysphagia.
You will join a team of Speech and Language Therapists who meet monthly for clinical supervision to develop and share good practice. Applications are welcome from qualified SLTs and students graduating in 2025; Newly Qualified Practitioners (NQPs) will be supported to meet RCSLT standards. Appointment is by interview and successful applicants will undergo NHS pre-employment checks, including Enhanced DBS.
Responsibilities
* Provide evidence-based speech and language therapy assessment, treatment and intervention to adults with learning disabilities who have communication and/or eating and drinking difficulties.
* Apply core speech and language therapy skills to the learning disability field across the full spectrum of communication disorders, including non-verbal communication, AAC, dysfluency, autistic spectrum disorders.
* Work alongside more senior SLTs to consolidate and develop skills; work autonomously when appropriate with supervision from Specialist SLTs.
* Contribute to developing person-centred care plans within the Integrated LD Team.
* Access clinical supervision and participate in ongoing professional development to meet competency standards.
Qualifications and Requirements
* Qualified Speech and Language Therapist; NQPs welcome. Must be able to meet the travel requirements of the role within LSCFT.
* Evidence of meeting standards of competency as dictated by the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapy (RCSLT) Newly Qualified Practitioner framework where applicable.
* Eligibility to work in the UK and suitable pre-employment checks, including Enhanced DBS.
* Interest in working with adults who have learning disabilities in the community and willingness to work as part of a multidisciplinary team.
