Internal Redeployment Only - Senior Student Recruitment Officer The UK Student Recruitment team is looking to appoint a Senior Student Recruitment Officer to cover a wide range of activity to support the university in the recruitment of undergraduate students from the UK. The role provides a fantastic opportunity for the successful candidate to gain a broad knowledge of undergraduate study opportunities at the university, while developing skills and experience in leading on the planning and delivery of undergraduate open days, representing the university at outbound recruitment events at schools and colleges, and supporting with the business-critical clearing call centre operation. In addition, the postholder will have line management responsibility for four academic school-based members of staff and will lead on the development of publications for the team and on delivery of email communications to teachers and careers advisors. The role is based within the Schools Liaison team but will also work closely with colleagues in the wider student recruitment and marketing teams as well as colleagues in University’s colleges and academic schools. Salary: £41,064 - £46,049 per annum (Grade 6). This role is eligible to be offered on a blended working basis, meaning that as well as spending time working on campus, you may spend some time working from another location, e.g. your home. Key Duties Working flexibly as part of a dedicated team, including travel and some evening and weekend working, you will: Lead on the delivery of autumn undergraduate open days, working closely with the undergraduate recruitment events team Supporting the lead project team, contribute to the successful planning, delivery and evaluation of the annual clearing call centre operation Lead on the development of publications (excluding the UG prospectus) for undergraduate student recruitment and manage the dedicated publications budget Develop and deliver the teacher and careers advisors email newsletter and the annual direct mailer to Schools and Colleges Support the Schools Liaison team with developing activity specifically for teachers and careers advisors, including webinar sessions, conferences and attendance at external events Line manage academic school-based staff, supporting them in their roles, integrating them into the UK Student Recruitment team and COMMS, and continue to work with them to develop a collaborative working approach Maintain and develop comprehensive knowledge to provide potential UK undergraduate applicants and their advisors with accurate information, advice and guidance concerning all aspects of Cardiff University, including study opportunities, entry requirements and processes, student fees and funding, teaching methods, accommodation, sports and leisure facilities and other aspects of interest and supportive of the recruitment process Support the Senior Schools and Colleges Liaison Officers with developing links and managing external relationships with schools, colleges and other stakeholders through arranging and personally delivering outbound visits and inbound campus visits, and by providing information and advice through a range of media, including presentations Provide information, advice and guidance to applicants, teachers, carers, parents, careers counsellors, on and off campus, to increase applications and conversion to enrolment Act as the sole Cardiff representative at a range of undergraduate recruitment fairs and exhibitions, attending a minimum of 30 outbound visits, ensuring that enquirer data is accurately captured and excellent customer service delivered Support the Schools Liaison team with the delivery and evaluation of a range of activities to support Cardiff’s student recruitment, including events, seminars, campus visits, presentations and open day activities Raise the aspirations of students in secondary education from non-traditional backgrounds such that they understand the benefits of higher education and the opportunities available to them Provide leadership, information and assistance to others in the University involved in recruiting UK undergraduate students Contribute to the delivery of the undergraduate Discover Cardiff webinar series Ensure you are fully knowledgeable about Cardiff’s campaigns and key messages, and have up-to-date information on new recruitment innovations Manage your own learning and development in discussion with your line manager You may be asked to perform other duties occasionally which are not included above, but which will be consistent with the role. Additional Information It will not normally be possible to take annual leave on days when undergraduate and postgraduate open days take place or during the confirmation and clearing period during mid-August. About the Department The Communications and Marketing Department is responsible for the University’s reputation and branding as well as UK/International student recruitment operations. It covers six areas: communications and public affairs, marketing, UK student recruitment and outreach, digital communications, international and admissions. Communications plays an important part in building and maintaining the reputation of the University through effective communication to the public and to external and internal stakeholders. It communicates the achievements and aspirations of the University through a variety of media and includes a film unit. The team represents the University on a corporate level. Public affairs lead on stakeholder relationships locally, nationally and internationally. Digital Communications is responsible for the design, development and content of the external website and the intranet. Marketing is responsible for developing a strong brand identity for the University at the corporate level, with an emphasis on better visual branding and market research. UK Student recruitment and Outreach plays an important role in attracting the University's undergraduate and postgraduate students from throughout the UK; in addition to managing the University’s widening participation activities. The International Office drives the University’s international recruitment strategy and advises on all areas related to international recruitment and development.
