Veterinary Surgeon - Small Animal - Birmingham
We are looking for a full time Veterinary Surgeon to join our wonderful team here at White Cross Vets, Kings Heath.
Salary up to £65,000 DOE plus relocation allowance up to £5,000
Overview
Role and Rota: Our full-time team members work 40 hours per week, over 4 days plus inclusion in the Saturday Rota. There is no requirement for out of hours. The role is a mixture of operating (30%) and consulting (70%). The team works a 4 day-week, but a 5-day week can also be accommodated. Shifts are either a consulting shift or an operating shift, balanced evenly across the team over a month. The current Saturday rota is 1 in 5 with TOIL given back in the working week for Saturday hours. We aim for an equal split of consulting and operating sessions each month. Consultations are on average 15 minutes, with longer appointments for emergencies if needed. Rota\'s are prepared 6-8 weeks in advance. Most vets work 40 hours per week over 4 days, giving one full day off during the week (same day if possible). One Saturday in six from 8:30 to 12:30.
The Team
We are a large friendly team made up of 1 practice director, 6 VS’s, 1 Head RVN, 10 RVNs, 3 VCAs, 1 practice manager, and 5 CCC’s. We also have certificate holders within the practice: 2 internal medicine and one 1 surgery. One of the vets is currently obtaining a certificate in feline medicine. We encourage learning and development. Regular socials and monthly wellbeing afternoons, with activities such as practice Olympics and puzzles. Regular individual and whole-practice meetings and a weekly team newsletter.
The Practice
The practice is based in Kings Heath in Birmingham, close to Birmingham city centre. Kings Heath and Moseley village are full of independent restaurants and bars. Buses every 5-10 minutes; closest train station in Kings Norton. From Autumn 2025, direct train from Birmingham city centre to Kings Heath. In-house lab, large prep and theatre area, diagnostics including x-ray, endoscopy and ultrasound. Large waiting area with separate areas for cats, dogs and rabbits, and a screened-off area for anxious or reactive dogs. Senior team supports professional development.
