The role

Graduate Composite Manufacturing Engineer

Invent New Ways Of Manufacturing Wind Turbine Blades

DFM Blades is an ambitious startup (founded 2024) rethinking how wind turbine blades are designed and manufactured. Today, manufacturability is often considered too late in the design process, leading to complex builds, heavy reliance on craftsmanship, avoidable defects, and costly rework.

Our mission is to change that — by developing fundamentally new blade design and manufacturing approaches that shift production from craftsmanship to engineered assembly. The result: faster, more consistent, and truly scalable blade manufacturing.

We’re looking for a curious, hands‑on graduate engineer to join us on this exciting journey.

DFM Blades is a subsidiary company working closely with DFS Composites in the development of advanced wind blade technologies.

The Role

This is a hands‑on, learning‑focused engineering role where you’ll work closely with experienced engineers to develop and test new manufacturing concepts for wind turbine blades.

You’ll gain exposure across the full development cycle — from early ideas and prototypes through to real‑world manufacturing and customer implementation. If you enjoy building, experimenting, and solving practical problems, this role will give you the opportunity to develop those skills rapidly.

Applicants must have, or be able to obtain, the right to work in the UK by the start of employment.

What You’ll Do

Development & Prototyping

  • Support the development of new manufacturing concepts for composite wind turbine blades.
  • Build and test prototypes in our workshop alongside technicians and engineers.
  • Help run experiments and trials, collecting data and learning what works (and what doesn’t).
  • Contribute ideas to improve manufacturability, simplicity, and scalability.

Manufacturing & Process Thinking

  • Assist in defining how new concepts can be turned into practical manufacturing processes.
  • Help document process steps, parameters, and best practices.
  • Learn how to identify potential risks and quality issues early in development.

Scale‑Up & Real‑World Application

  • Support the transition of ideas from prototypes into scalable manufacturing solutions.
  • Assist with pilot builds and early production trials.
  • Contribute to creating clear instructions, visual guides, and documentation.
  • Work closely with design engineers, technicians, and external partners.
  • Communicate ideas using sketches, notes, and simple visual tools.
  • Learn how engineering concepts translate into real‑world production.

Who You Are

  • A recent graduate (or soon to graduate) with a degree in mechanical, materials, manufacturing, aerospace, or similar engineering discipline.
  • Strong interest in hands‑on composites engineering and making things work in practice.
  • Well organised with good documentation and writing skills.
  • Curious and eager to learn — especially through experimentation.
  • Comfortable working in a workshop environment and getting involved practically.
  • Good problem‑solving skills and willingness to tackle open‑ended challenges.
  • Able to communicate ideas clearly (sketches, notes, simple documentation).
  • Self‑motivated and excited to work in a startup environment.
  • Applicants must have, or be able to obtain, the right to work in the UK by the start of employment.

Desirable (but not required)

  • Any project, internship, or university experience involving composites or materials.
  • Experience with manufacturing processes.
  • Experience with prototyping or workshop work.
  • Experience with CAD or basic engineering analysis tools.

Why Join DFM Blades

  • Learn fast: work directly on real engineering challenges from day one.
  • Hands‑on experience: work with and learn from skilled technicians executing composites workshop trials.
  • Real impact: your work contributes to the future of wind energy manufacturing.
  • Mentorship: work closely with experienced engineers and grow your skills quickly.
  • Early‑stage environment: opportunity to shape your role as the company grows.
  • Location: On‑site in Fareham, Hampshire.

If you're excited about building things, learning fast, and helping reinvent how wind turbine blades are made, we’d love to hear from you.

Please send us your CV and a short covering letter.
