Technical Accountant
Lead the Technical Accounting team at Coventry and Warwickshire Partnership NHS Trust, ensuring high‑quality patient care and the financial strength of the organisation. Responsibilities include capital accounting, fixed asset management, statutory reporting, corporate tax, and technical compliance.
Key Responsibilities
* Support the Head of Financial Accounting to deliver statutory Annual Accounts in accordance with DHSC timescales.
* Produce accurate monthly financial information following Trust timescales.
* Provide a comprehensive capital accounting service, planning and monitoring capital acquisitions.
* Maintain the asset register and ensure the general ledger reflects the fixed asset programme.
* Oversee corporate tax administration and manage provisions and stocks.
* Manage non‑cash working capital, including provisions, stock and NHS Resolution activities.
* Lead and develop the Technical Accounting team, fostering a culture of accuracy, transparency and continuous improvement.
* Provide expert advice to colleagues across the Trust and liaise with internal and external auditors.
* Develop and implement policy changes and procedures related to capital and technical accounting.
* Ensure compliance with IFRS, NHS financial guidance and national regulations.
* Coordinate and support annual and ad‑hoc capital reports, board and committee reports and external submissions.
* Prepare and monitor monthly capital cash flow projections and 3‑year capital plans.
* Ensure accurate VAT treatment of capital receipts and payments, meeting HMRC regulations.
* Oversee operating lease recording and IFRS 16 lease accounting.
* Maintain performance reviews, development plans and objectives for team members.
* Provide communication on financial information, audit queries and stakeholder updates.
Qualifications & Experience
* CCAB Qualified or equivalent professional accountancy qualification.
* Extensive financial accounting experience and a supervisory role.
* Experience with computerised finance systems and associated feeder modules.
* Knowledge of HMRC VAT regulations and contracted‑out services recovery.
* Recent experience in control account reconciliation.
* Knowledge of NHS financial regime, directives and guidance.
* Strong interpersonal, communication and organisational skills.
* Ability to design and develop systems to achieve departmental objectives.
