About the Role
We are recruiting for a Senior Operations Technician to join a Power Generation Facility. This is a senior hands‑on role responsible for supporting the safe, efficient and compliant operation of the plant, ensuring high levels of availability, performance, and environmental compliance. You will play a key role in plant operations, fault finding and mentoring junior team members within a 24/7 process environment.
Key Responsibilities
* Support the safe and efficient operation of the Power Generation Facility.
* Operate and monitor plant systems using DCS/SCADA.
* Ensure compliance with Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) standards and Environmental Permit.
* Respond to plant faults, alarms, and carry out first‑line fault diagnosis.
* Assist with start‑up, shutdown, and emergency operations.
* Monitor and adjust plant performance to optimise efficiency and output.
* Apply and support Safe Systems of Work (permits, RAMS, risk assessments).
* Assist with plant isolation for maintenance activities.
* Contribute to incident reporting, investigations, and root cause analysis.
* Participate in daily planning and coordination of operations and maintenance.
* Provide guidance and support to junior operators/technicians.
* Maintain high standards of housekeeping and operational discipline.
* Contribute to continuous improvement and plant optimisation initiatives.
Skills & Experience
* Recognised engineering qualification or apprenticeship.
* Experience in an EfW, Biomass, Power Generation, or heavy process environment.
* Working knowledge of DCS / SCADA systems.
* Understanding of boilers, steam systems, and combustion processes.
* Knowledge of Safe Systems of Work / permit systems.
* Basic understanding of electrical systems (LV/HV) (advantageous).
* Strong fault‑finding and problem‑solving skills.
* Good IT skills (Word, Excel) for reporting.
* Ability to work effectively within a shift team.
