SEN Teacher (Primary) – Full Time

Location: Sunderland
Contract: Full-time, permanent (term-time)
Start date: As soon as possible

About the role
We’re seeking a dedicated SEN Teacher to join a specialist primary provision for children aged 4–11 with autism spectrum condition (ASC), severe learning difficulties (SLD) and other additional needs. This role offers a chance to teach creatively, build meaningful relationships, and contribute to the whole-child development of learners who thrive in a structured, supportive environment.

Responsibilities

1. Plan and deliver engaging, differentiated lessons tailored to pupils with SEND.

2. Work closely with support staff, therapists and multi-disciplinary teams to meet individual education, health & care plan (EHCP) objectives.

3. Foster pupils’ emotional regulation, communication, independence and wellbeing through inclusive practice.

4. Monitor and assess pupils’ progress, adjust strategies accordingly and report to stakeholders.

5. Promote a safe, nurturing and predictable learning environment where pupils feel valued and successful.

What we’re looking for

6. Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or QTLS.

7. Experience working with pupils with SEND is highly desired though we will consider strong candidates new to the specialist sector.

8. Strong organisational, communication and interpersonal skills.

9. A calm, patient, adaptable approach and a commitment to inclusive education.

10. A genuine passion to make a difference in a specialist setting.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
