At B P Collins LLP, we advise individuals, families, deputies, attorneys and executors on complex and sensitive disputes involving mental capacity, vulnerable individuals, trusts and estates. Our work includes disputes concerning deputyships, attorneys, financial abuse concerns, contested decision‑making, and matters overlapping with contentious probate and private wealth disputes.
Our approach is pragmatic, measured and client‑focused. These matters are often emotionally sensitive and require strong technical capability, sound judgement, empathy and the ability to guide clients through difficult situations with clarity and confidence.
What This Role Offers
This position is suited to an experienced solicitor already operating within the Contentious Probate arena, with experience of Court of Protection disputes, who is looking for greater responsibility, client exposure and progression within a collaborative and commercially grounded team.
You will take the lead on a varied caseload of Contentious Probate work, including Court of Protection and contentious private client matters, managing disputes from initial instruction through to resolution.
The Role Is Expected To Include
* Court of Protection disputes relating to property and financial affairs
* Deputyship and attorney disputes
* Mental capacity matters
* Financial abuse and safeguarding concerns
* Removal and replacement of deputies and attorneys
* Disputes involving vulnerable individuals and family decision‑making
* Matters overlapping with contentious probate and trust disputes
* Negotiation, mediation and, where necessary, formal Court proceedings
Alongside managing your own matters, you will play an important role in advising clients strategically from an early stage, helping families and individuals navigate highly sensitive situations in a practical and commercially sensible way.
You will work closely with Partners, counsel, medical professionals and other advisers where appropriate, while building trusted long‑term client relationships.
The Role Will Also Involve
* Supporting and supervising juniors where appropriate
* Collaborating across Private Client and Dispute Resolution teams
* Contributing to business development and client relationship management
* Supporting the continued growth of the practice over time
Who We Are Looking For
We are keen to speak with solicitors who have experience of contentious private client work and who are comfortable taking ownership of complex and sensitive matters.
You Will Ideally Have
* Strong experience within Court of Protection disputes, contentious probate or private wealth litigation
* Experience advising on Mental Capacity Act matters
* Confidence managing your own caseload with limited supervision
* Strong drafting and client communication skills
* A calm, measured and pragmatic approach to dispute resolution
* Experience supervising or mentoring junior team members
Experience appearing in or managing matters before the Court of Protection would be advantageous.
We are particularly interested in individuals who combine strong technical capability with emotional intelligence and sound commercial judgment.
What We Can Offer You
* Competitive and transparent remuneration package, including salary, profit share, private healthcare, life assurance, and 25 days’ holiday increasing to 30+, alongside employer pension contribution.
* Flexible, hybrid working model supported by a well‑connected, collegiate office environment, giving you the balance to work effectively while remaining closely involved with your team and clients.
* Genuinely collaborative culture, where partners are accessible, teams are lean, and you are given early responsibility with the support needed to develop with confidence.
* Clear and structured progression, with a focus on long‑term development rather than short‑term targets, supported by regular training, exposure to high‑quality work, and ongoing insight into market and legislative developments.
* Consistent emphasis on wellbeing, ensuring you can sustain high performance over time without compromising balance.
