Job Overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Immunology & Allergy Team at North Bristol Trust for a Band 6 nurse. We are looking for a highly motivated nurse who is passionate about high quality patient care to join the team of Immunology & Allergy Nurses. The teams manage the care of patients with allergies who are having diagnostic tests or treatment as well as the long term management of a client group with primary antibody deficiency.
Main duties of the job
 * The post holder will participate in nurse-led clinics providing allergy desensitisation and clinics offering drug and food challenges. The post holder will be part of a nursing team providing the primary point of contact for patients, relatives, carers and clinicians, in relation to the management of immune deficient patients or complex allergies.
 * The post holder would also be part of the nurse led Penicillin allergy delabelling service, following the relevant training.
 * The post holder will be required to train patients and relatives to self-administer a variety of treatments for both immune deficiency and allergy and participate in audit and research programmes.
 * The successful applicant will need to be enthusiastic with excellent communication skills. You will need to be self-motivated and able to work on your own initiative within an MDT team. Some knowledge of immunology and allergy would be an advantage however the opportunity to expand your knowledge will be available and full training will be given.
 * Work with the team to develop skills required to assess new patients in allergy clinics and be willing to work at satellite centres on an as required basis.
 * Be willing to undertake training to support the immunology team and provide support and direction for professional practice.
 * Ability to develop and teach practical skills to patients and their families so that treatment can be continued in the community.
 * Ability to demonstrate practical clinical skills (venepuncture and cannulation).
 * Able to act as a knowledge resource for other health professionals needing advice on aspects of immunology and allergy.
 * Be competent in assessing patients’ risk factors before and after allergy desensitisation injections and be able to analyse complex clinical diagnostic allergy testing (skin prick testing) and interpret results.
 * Life support skills (adult).
