Social Work Apprentices

Fixed Term Contract / Secondment

Grade 3 - £26,409 - £32,654

Consultation grade - subject to formal evaluation under the Pay Equity Review

Working 36.5 hours per week

Birmingham City Council is excited to announce 5 Social Work Apprenticeship positions, offering you a unique opportunity to train and qualify as a Social Worker. This entry route allows you to gain experience on the job whilst studying for a fully funded Social Work degree, through the apprenticeship levy.

Do you:
• have 2 years or more direct and varied work experience in a face-to-face role with individuals

• want to train to become a registered Social Worker

Are you:
• looking for a work based route with a fully funded degree and paid salary
• a resident of the UK and eligible to work here for the duration of the apprenticeship programme

The apprenticeship programme includes:
• Fully funded level 6 Social Worker Integrated Degree Apprenticeship.
• Mixture of work based and academic learning.
• Protected time away from work to attend university and to study.
• Annual work rotations.
• A workplace mentor/supervisor.
• Dedicated apprenticeship programme support.

You will need:

* to be eligible to work in the UK for the duration of the apprenticeship programme.

* to hold GCSE English at grade C/4 or above or an approved equivalent such as level 2 functional skills at the point of application.
* For apprentices aged 16 – 18 yearson the first day of the apprenticeship programmethe requirement for apprentices to evidence Level 2 English & Maths will remainand apprentices will be expected to provide sufficient evidence of a certificate and/or where they do not hold this currently engage and achieve their Level 2 Maths and English (Functional skills, GCSE or equivalent) before they are offered a place on the apprenticeship.
* For apprentices aged 19 and overon the first day of the apprenticeship programme, we will require apprentices to be functioning at Level 2 in both Maths and English upon entry. For those apprentices who do not hold Level 2 either as they did not achieve it and/or are unable to locate the sufficient evidence/certificate(s) will have the option to be able to sit initial assessments via the system Basic Knowledge Skills Builder (BKSB) to assess they are functioning at Level 2. Where an apprentice achieves Level 2 on the initial assessments this will be sufficient evidence that they are functioning at the level required for entry onto one our apprenticeship programmes.
* to upload copies of all your original qualification certificates to us as part of the application process. If you cannot find these you could order replacements online. If you undertook your qualifications outside of the UK you will need to provide a statement of comparability.
* to be able to demonstrate the skills and knowledge for entry to the social work degree (for more information visit Point of entry to training Point of entry to training | BASW)

The selection process will be in two parts and will consist of an Interview, and if you are successful at interview you will then progress to a second interview with the Higher Education Institute.
