Band 7 Highly Specialist Paediatric Occupational Therapist

Main duties of the job
To contribute towards ensuring children and young people with additional needs gain access to a broad, balanced and relevant education, whilst also having their exceptional needs met in an inclusive way. To work as part of multidisciplinary and multi-agency teams to deliver highly specialist OT interventions, using the tiered model approach and following the agreed service packages of care and pathways.
To provide Occupational Therapy at a highly specialist level, working in partnership with other agencies and disciplines to support in the holistic assessment, early identification of need, diagnosis and intervention for children and young people known to the service.

* Carrying out Occupational Therapy at a universal, targeted and specialist level, including assessments and developing and implementing programmes of care and treatment for clients, schools and families in line with agreed pathways and tiered service delivery.
* Enable and empower staff, parents/caregivers to identify children\'s needs and provide strategies at the earliest opportunity.
* Provide training and bespoke coaching to children and young people, early years/school staff and parents/caregivers.
* Work autonomously, prioritising in own work area and balancing clinical and professional demands.
* Negotiate with the multi-agency team, colleagues and carers regarding management of complex clinical cases and referrals.
* Provide treatment based on best practice and evidence, adapted to clients\' needs and priorities, and advise other professionals and parents on appropriate support in school/home environments.
* Support the promotion and delivery of universal and targeted offers to families/educational staff with clinical advice and signposting to other services.
* Write clinical/service reports containing highly complex, confidential information which may be used in a legal context.
* Understand national NHS perspectives and strategies to ensure team members contribute to service improvement.
Person Specification
Essential skills and knowledge:
* Competent in using evidence to inform clinical decisions
* Knowledge of national and political agenda affecting health services and the specific service area
* Knowledge of the needs of diverse populations and impact on service provision
* Competent in using electronic systems relevant to Practice
Essential experience:
* Extensive post-registration experience working as a therapist with children
* Experience as a specialist OT with children and families in multi-disciplinary and/or multi-agency teams
* Experience managing a mixed and complex caseload of children and young people with developmental disorders
* Experience working within NHS knowledge of SEND, local authority and NHS drivers
* Experience providing complex written and verbal information/reports to a high standard
Qualifications and training:
* Degree in Occupational Therapy
* HCPC Professional Registration
* Evidence of recent relevant CPD in specialist area
* Training in specialist areas (e.g., Sensory Integration)
Desirable: Full RCOT membership
