About Thebusinessunit: The Energy unit delivers services to clients globally across several sectors including hydropower, nuclear, waste, renewable generation, and transmission & distribution networks. We provide integrated engineering and project management services across the project lifecycle from concept and design to construction and operations, to decommissioning or repowering and life extension. We help deliver the energy transition globally.
Overview Of The Role
As our Energy Unit grows, we are seeking a Contract Specialist to join our team with a bias towards UK infrastructure consultancy contract management. You will gain experience in a wide variety of commercial disciplines including contract reviews, contract advice, cross border delivery, disputes, claims, tax and insurance.
Key Responsibilities And Duties
* Draft, review, and negotiate a broad range of commercial agreements, including consultancy agreements, framework agreements, memorandums of understanding, and non-disclosure agreements
* Conduct commercial reviews to identify departures from governance and assist project teams in obtaining internal approvals where appropriate
* Draft and update commercial guidance to raise awareness of recurrent topics and new regulations in key markets and jurisdictions
* Assist Divisional Commercial Managers and other members of the unit team; may lead on commercial risk management for projects
* Manage and resolve claims supported by internal Commercial and Legal functions
* Support other Mott MacDonald functions in governance, including liaison with Legal, Ethics & Compliance, Data Protection and Insurance teams
Candidate Specification
Essential
* Understanding of UK infrastructure contract law and use of standardised contracts (e.g. NEC)
* Practical experience applying legal principles and commercial law
* Strong analytical skills and legal knowledge
* Ability to multitask, problem solve, and balance competing priorities
* Effective communication with a wide range of stakeholders
* Ability to work autonomously or as part of a team
* Law Degree LLB or equivalent; Engineering or similar degree considered with relevant experience
Desirable
* Experience in large engineering or construction companies
* Track record advising on contract matters across multiple jurisdictions, particularly Civil Law jurisdictions in the UK
* Experience delivering contract reviews, drafting and negotiations
