Locum Consultant in Paediatric Anaesthesia
A whole‑time/part‑time post as locum consultant in Paediatric Anaesthesia is available now at the John Radcliffe Hospital.
This appointment is on a whole‑time/part‑time basis but applications are welcome from those who wish to job share. This is a fixed‑term locum post for 12 months for maternity leave cover, to start in May 2026.

This post requires the candidate to join the Paediatric Anaesthetic Group at the Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. The group provides flexible teamworking for children’s anaesthesia in Oxford. The role is suitable for a candidate with an interest in anaesthesia for paediatric surgery including neonatal surgery. There would also be opportunities for providing anaesthesia and peri‑operative care for a wide range of procedures in children, both for diagnostic and operative procedures.
The post‑holder’s duties will be primarily at the John Radcliffe Hospital, but the appointment requires willingness to work at any of the Trust’s locations, including the John Radcliffe, Churchill and Horton Hospitals and the Nuffield Orthopaedic Hospital.
The role is based around fixed theatre days which may include paediatric general/orthopaedic surgery (including emergency surgery and neonatal procedures) plus flexible cover for paediatric lists of all non‑cardiac paediatric specialties, including weekend working. There may also be an opportunity to contribute to the on‑call rota if required.
Additionally, the post‑holder will be required to participate in programmes for teaching clinical students, training junior doctors and in clinical examinations. Teaching, training and research will be included in the regular job plan review.
The post‑holder will also participate in all clinical governance activities, including clinical audit, clinical effectiveness, risk management, quality improvement activities as required by the Trust, and external accrediting bodies.
