Band 7 - Macmillan Breast Clinical Nurse Specialist, Breast Unit

The post holder will have continuing responsibility for the co‑ordination and organisation of individual treatment programmes throughout the disease trajectory. The post holder will assess, plan, implement and evaluate expert nursing care and provide support to patients attending the breast unit with a suspected or diagnosed breast cancer. This is a key position in the breast multidisciplinary team. The post holder will provide specialist advice and psychological support and will develop communication pathways with key stakeholders across health and social care settings. This role is 22.5 hours per week.
Job responsibilities
* Work autonomously to manage the caseload of patients while working as part of the multidisciplinary team, maintaining effective communication with patients, carers and professionals to ensure seamless service delivery.
* Participate in Breast Clinics (results, follow‑up and metastatic) providing support and information for patients and relatives.
* Act as the coordinator of care for the patient, ensuring the patient moves through the pathway speedily and that the relevant treatment pathway is upheld. This will involve ensuring all relevant tests are carried out promptly and liaising with consultants within and outside the trust as appropriate.
* Assess new and ongoing metastatic patients in the inpatient and outpatient setting, identifying their psychological, physiological, emotional, spiritual and cultural needs in relation to their disease and proposed treatment, and providing a pathway of nursing care for the patient.
* Be involved in the development of policies, quality and audit initiatives, and nursing research.
* Actively seek to improve patient care through service improvement either autonomously or in collaboration with the service improvement team.

Education and qualifications
* NMC Registration
* Nursing Degree
* Clinical Nurse Specialist experience
* Breast Cancer experience
* Palliative Care experience
* Advanced Communication Course
* Psychological 2 Training
* Breast Cancer BSc Module
Knowledge
* Highly developed specialist knowledge underpinned by theory and experience.
Experience
* Substantial experience at Band 6/7 level within a speciality.
