Overview
BACKGROUND TO THE POST
The HE Subject Leader is responsible for the management of a specialist subject area, with direct accountability for the success and positive progression of the higher education student cohort under the leadership of the Dean of Higher Education.
The post holder will ensure that each student in the specialist subject area has access to and receives an outstanding experience including high quality teaching, learning and assessment that will ensure our students develop WCG employability skills to gain a competitive advantage as they progress towards and along their chosen careers.
Whilst working within the core values and through continuous improvement, the post holder will develop the specialist subject area to meet or exceed the College’s KPIs.
The person appointed will report to the Dean of Higher Education.
PROTECTION OF CHILDREN AND YOUNG PERSONS (THE CHILDREN’S ACT 1989)
Any offers of appointment will be subject to a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check (formerly CRB), a certificate of good conduct if applicable, plus receipt of satisfactory references, Occupational Health clearance, an understanding of safeguarding and qualifications verification. An Enhanced DBS check is required for this position as you will be working within 'Regulated Activity' within a specific place (i.e. the College).
This role is classed as working within Regulated Activity. It is an offence to apply for this role if you are barred from engaging in regulated activity relevant to children. By applying for this position, you agree to an Enhanced DBS check in line with DBS regulations.

In order to support during busy exam periods, you may be asked to undertake exam invigilator duties. The College will provide training.
The list of duties is not exhaustive but outlines the main features of the post at appointment and may vary as the job evolves without affecting the nature of the duties or the responsibility level.

Teaching Qualifications
The College values having a fully trained workforce to provide outstanding instructing and learning for our students, and has supportive teacher training pathways to help new colleagues thrive from day one. All student facing staff will be enrolled on our 8 week Teaching Essentials course as part of our onboarding programme.
And if you're not yet teacher qualified, don’t worry — you’ll follow a tailored training route linked to your role, with full guidance from our Quality Department after your appointment to get on to the Level 3 Award in Education and Training (AET).
Essential Attainments:
* Honours degree (level 6) in a subject related to the specialist subject area (Business).
* Teacher qualified to level 5 (such as a DET or PGCE), or Fellow of the HE Academy
Desirable Attainments:
* Master’s Degree (level 7)
