Provide woman‑centred, safe, effective and compassionate midwifery care throughout the antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal periods. Work autonomously to support all women with their birth choices, recognising when input from obstetricians and other health professionals is needed and referring appropriately. Practice in accordance with the NMC code of professional conduct.
Maintain professional development, liaise with multidisciplinary team members and support the other midwives in developing the maternity services.
Main duties
* Provide high‑quality and responsive care to women and their families during antenatal, intrapartum and post‑natal periods.
* Collaborate closely with the multidisciplinary team to achieve the best outcomes for women.
* Participate in an on‑call roster to support Penrith Birth Centre, facilitate home births, and assist the maternity unit during escalation.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* Registered Midwife.
* Postgraduate certificate or equivalent in further relevant development.
* Teaching certificate or equivalent.
* Neonatal examination of the newborn certificate or equivalent.
* Relevant postgraduate diploma or equivalent.
* Essential IT skills (EITS) or equivalent.
Experience and Knowledge
* Clinical practice in all aspects of midwifery care.
* Continuing professional development with portfolio.
* Knowledge of NMC rules and code of practice.
* Awareness of current local and national developments in maternity care.
* Experience with water birth.
* Understanding of equality legislation and best practice.
* Ability to make informed decisions.
* Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
* Ability to prioritise workload to meet deadlines.
* Capability to manage emergency and life‑threatening situations.
* Ability to support women and families in events such as stillbirths, undiagnosed genetic or birth deformities, child protection.
* Demonstration of compassionate values and behaviours needed for dignified care.
* IV cannulation.
* Ability to change practice using evidence‑based research.
Other Requirements
* Participation in on‑call rota for home births.
* Independently travel between sites as required.

This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975. A Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check is required. Standard Check cost: £28.00 (salary deduction over 4 months or one‑off). Enhanced Check cost: £56.00 (same deduction).
