We are delighted to be advertising a fixed term Band 6 OT role within the surgical pathway. 4th August 2025 - 31st July 2026.

You will be working with patients who are under the care of the surgical teams in a range of regional speciality services .

Thoracic surgery - Upper Gastrointestinal Surgery - Hepato- Bi l lary surgery - Max-Fax surgery - ENT surgery - Lower Gastrointestinal surgery

You will be working with the surgical and nursing teams to embed Therapies in all aspects of surgical care, fully optimising timely care and patient fl ow. You will be part of the patient pathway from high care through to discharge

Main duties of the job

We ar e looking for an Occupational Therapist who is already a skilled clinician with previous related experience. They will be naturally empathetic, demonstrating good communication skills to facilitate close working relationships with both service users and staff. They will need to be creative and flexible to meet the changing needs of the caseload and service.

They will possess excellent communication skills, demonstrate emerging leadership qualities and take an active interest in teaching and development of others.

The post holder will manage their own caseload, whilst working aspart of an interdiscipli nary team alongside Nurses, Doctors, Physiotherapists, Rehabilitation Technicians and Speech and Language T herapists.

In service training programs and staff appraisal systems are in operation to help you develop to meet the demands of the post.

The post holder will be committed to 1:4 weekend working + 2 bank holid ays throughout a year.

Knowledge and Experience

* Staff have completed a variety of rotations as a band 5
* Contributing to clinical education of less experienced staff, students or assistants
* Clinical supervision of students & non registered staff
* Experience of discharge planning (E)
* Experience of working in an acute hospital setting
* Experience of working within the Surgical Pathway


Skills

* Able to communicate effectively with a wide range of people that is consistent with their level of understanding, culture, background & preferred method of communication
* Able to demonstrate effective team working skills
* Able to prioritise & organise own caseload in both acute as well as rehabilitative setting(E)
* Experiencing of delegating work to others


skills

* Able to identify own strengths & weaknesses in clinical practice & knowledge
* Able to recognise own supervisory needs & respond positively to suggestions for improvement
* Able to demonstrate they have the skills to supervise others
* Evidence of regular professional reviews and / or portfolio

* Basic IM&T skills sufficient to input data from hospital systems
* Knowledge of different prioritisation methods
