The role
As a Senior Naval Architect, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. This is a highly prestigious position within our complex shipbuilding programme, where you’ll develop designs through concept and early-stage design and support the bidding process. Your work will make a real difference — not only to our customers and national security but also to your own career development and personal growth.
Day-to-day, you’ll have the following responsibilities:
1. Prepare and produce substantiation reports for marine solutions throughout all design lifecycle phases.
2. Liaise with design teams and stakeholders to ensure coordination and functionality of system designs.
3. Develop innovative design solutions with robust engineering substantiation.
4. Provide solutions to manufacturing and installation issues by resolving technical and production queries.
5. Support design reviews and ensure compliance with recognised standards.
This role is full time and is a hybrid role with 2 days onsite and 3 days working from home.
Essential experience of the Senior Naval Architect:
6. Proven naval architecture design experience from a highly regulated industry.
7. Proficiency with analytical software such as Paramarine, NAPA, FORAN, Maxsurf, FEA, CFD and/or CAD.
8. Experience contributing to design reviews.
Qualifications for the Senior Naval Architect:
9. Ideally degree-qualified in an engineering discipline (HND/HNC with extensive experience considered).
10. Membership of a relevant institution (e.g., RINA, IET, IMechE, IMarEst) and Chartered or Incorporated status (or working towards).
