The role
CORE PURPOSE We require an academically distinguished, intellectually charismatic Economics Teacher to deliver exceptional macroeconomics, microeconomics, and global trade instruction across Key Stage 4 and Key Stage 5 (A-Level). Operating within a high-achieving independent school environment, the successful candidate will facilitate a rigorous, university-preparatory curriculum designed to challenge highly articulate pupils, cultivate sophisticated financial literacy, and secure top-tier high-grade metrics ( A∗ – B at A-Level) for competitive university entry into PPE, Economics, and Finance faculties. KEY TASKS & DAILY OPERATIONS Advanced Macro and Micro Instruction: Plan and execute conceptually demanding economics lessons, embedding quantitative models, fiscal policy derivations, market failure analysis, and game theory into daily seminar-style tuition. Super-Curricular Enrichment: Spearhead academic extension activities, including leading entry submissions for the Royal Economic Society essay competition, managing student-led investment societies, and coordinating mock geopolitical summits. Elite Examination Preparation: Systematically prepare terminal A-Level cohorts for rigorous essay writing, quantitative data response analysis, and evaluative case study frameworks to maximize top-grade boundary attainment. University-Admissions Mentorship: Provide sophisticated guidance for Oxbridge, Russell Group, and international university pathways, including conducting mock admissions interviews and supervising Extended Project Qualifications (EPQs) focused on developmental or behavioral economics. Collegiate Pastoral Stewardship: Fulfill full form tutor responsibilities within a traditional, tight-knit house system, tracking academic progress, writing detailed reference reports, and actively supporting the holistic well-being of pupils. ENVIRONMENT & STRUCTURE Independent School Framework: Operating outside the state sector under a charitable trust model, this established independent fee-paying day school prioritises deep scholarship, small class sizes, and extensive enrichment opportunities. Scholarly Campus Culture: The school maintains an exceptionally purposeful, courteous, and ambitious atmosphere. Pupils exhibit exemplary behavior, mature work ethics, and a profound respect for learning, practically eliminating low-level behavior management and allowing for uninhibited, high-level academic debate. PROFILE REQUIREMENTS Qualifications: A strong honours degree (First or 2:1) in Economics, Econometrics, PPE, or a heavily quantitative social science discipline from a reputable university. While Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) is highly desirable, the school welcomes applications from exceptional subject specialists or academics looking to transition into secondary education. Pedagogical Capability: A proven capacity to deliver outstanding progress outcomes and high-grade metrics in terminal A-Level Economics specifications through precise, essay-first academic pedagogy. Intellectual Stature: The ability to confidently stretch articulate, curious pupils and field advanced, spontaneous economic queries that extend well beyond the core secondary syllabus. REGIONAL CONTEXT The Tyne Economic Hub & Northeast Innovation: Based in the vibrant city of Newcastle upon Tyne, the school capitalises on a unique regional identity where historic industrial heritage meets a booming modern economy built on renewable energy, tech startups, and the legal-financial services of the Newcastle Helix innovation zone. The local area provides a rich backdrop for studying regional development, supply chains, and urban regeneration. Connectivity & Infrastructure: The campus benefits from premium North East transport links, providing straightforward commuting via the A1(M), A19, and A1058 Coast Road. Public transit is fast and comprehensive via the Tyne & Wear Metro network and Newcastle Central Station, which offers rapid, regular rail services across Tyne and Wear, Northumberland, County Durham, and direct lines via the East Coast Main Line to Edinburgh and London King's Cross.
