Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) – SEND (Maternity Cover)
Location: South Birmingham, near Harborne
Start Date: September 2025
Contract Type: Supply (via Connex Education)
Working Hours: 30 hours per week (4 days – must include Thursday and Friday, 8:15am–4:15pm)
Hillcrest School, an all-round Outstanding secondary school in South Birmingham, is seeking a committed and experienced SEND HLTA to join our supportive Learner Support Department from September 2025. About the Role:
Under the direction of the AHT SENDCo and SEND Lead Practitioner, the successful candidate will:
* Support the day-to-day operations of the Learner Support provision.
* Deliver high-quality intervention and support for students with a range of SEND needs, particularly those with social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) challenges.
* Work closely with staff, external agencies, and families to ensure coordinated, tailored support.
* Plan and deliver bespoke interventions and small group work, maintaining accurate records.
Essential Criteria:
* Proven experience working with secondary-aged students with SEND, especially those with SEMH needs.
* Experience working with local authority agencies and families, delivering targeted interventions.
* Strong interpersonal skills and a collaborative approach to working within a team.
* Excellent attendance and reliability.
Desirable Criteria:
* HLTA status or Level 3 TA qualification.
* Recent safeguarding training.
* Experience using IT systems such as Microsoft Office and CPOMs.
* Previous experience managing or leading TAs in a secondary school setting.
