Overview

The Merchandiser plays a key role within the Merchandising function, providing vital support to the Merchandising team to achieve optimum efficiency and to deliver the department plan on customer, sales, and profit. The Merchandiser is responsible for ensuring the right stock and intake is available for customers and for leading and managing a team within the department.


Responsibilities

* Strategy: Create, evaluate, and analyse historical analysis packs to identify opportunities, risks, and areas of missed potential. Drive department strategy aligned with broader business goals. Share analysis during brand meetings to support decision making. Collaborate with Buying to determine department direction.
* Plan: Build and accurately complete product mix packs. Create sign-off packs and manage critical paths with full ownership for planning key brands. Present in product mix and sign-off meetings. Maintain central planograms and range plans. Review and update scheduling, grading, and size mapping to MADS tools. Load departmental plans into the WSSI after product mix.
* Order: Ensure teams use the central MADS ratio tool to maintain accurate ratios. Oversee analysis and reconciliation. Ensure POs are split to minimise duty, using historical analysis and planograms to check buy plans and compare sales to buy by DC.
* Stock: Manage department intake plans and identify bookings. Identify over/understock issues to drive commercial decisions. Flag potential cancellation and free stock opportunities. Ensure orderbooks align to sign-offs.
* Trade: Create weekly department trade emails for SMT. Use reporting to review and analyse performance and identify trading actions. Lead and participate in weekly trade meetings. Collaborate with Trading, Digital, VM, and Buying to drive trading actions and pricing strategies. Monitor markdown spend and obtain approval as needed. Identify OTB opportunities and maintain accurate forecasting of KPIs via WSSI.
* Stores: Create quarterly range plans, range and de-range stores to maintain planned option counts. Analyse store/area performance and guide store actions. Ensure new stores meet deadlines and maintain product relevance. Conduct store visits and share actionable feedback.
* Management & Leadership: Lead and develop the team, provide training, and review processes for improved ways of working. Conduct regular 1-to-1 catch ups and implement training.


Qualifications and Skills

* Lead and support team with guidance and direction. Analytical, data-driven, and highly numerate. Strong attention to detail and data accuracy.
* Strategic and long-term thinking with independent decision-making and justification.
* Critical thinker with ability to deliver commercial decisions and effective solutions. Confident communicator capable of building relationships at all levels.
* Ownership mindset with initiative, strong teamwork, adaptability, and continuous learning.
* Proficient in Excel. Knowledge across GUI, Shogun, planograms, range planning, WSSI, and trade reporting is desirable.


Training and Requirements

* Role-specific training areas include GUI, Shogun, Advanced Excel, trade knowledge, product mix, sign-off pack creation and meeting attendance, historical analysis packs, size ratios and mappings, planner/range planning, central brand matrix, event trading plans, PO creation and upload, intake management, trade actions, weekly price changes and markdown proposals.
