A charitable organisation based in Belfast is recruiting for a temporary Heritage Officer.
Your new role
You will be a highly organised Heritage Officer leading in the coordination of amunity-based heritage project focused on a historic site and its surrounding area. This role involves designing and delivering a programme of story-collection, engaging with a broad cross-section of the localmunity and affiliated organisations. The Heritage Officer will also contribute to the interpretation of collected stories through permanent and living heritage exhibitions, and support related engagement and celebration events.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Coordinate a heritage project, including research into the history of the site, the surrounding area, and the development of cultural institutions and practices.
2. Organise and lead story-collection activities across various locations, managing schedules, volunteers, and necessary equipment.
3. Identify and engage individuals of interest for interviews and story-sharing.
4. Build strong relationships with schools, care homes,munity groups, and heritage organisations to support project participation.
5. Develop and manage effectivemunication channels with all project participants and stakeholders.
6. Support the coordination ofmunity events, contributing engaging content for diverse audiences.
7. Serve as the main point of contact for participants, stakeholders, and media enquiries related to the project.
8. Collaborate with marketing and digital teams to oversee branding, educational materials, and creative outputs.
9. Work with a steering group and/or external artists/designers to develop the final visual exhibition.
10. Monitor project progress against plans, timelines, and budgets, and provide updates to funders.
11. Coordinate project evaluation in partnership with an appointed evaluation team.
12. Represent the organisation as an ambassador throughout the project.
What you'll need to succeed
Essential
13. Educated to degree level or equivalent in a relevant subject
14. Experience of delivering heritage, educational, creative and/ormunity projects
15. Genuine interest in celebrating local history, heritage and stories
16. Ability to relate to a wide range of stakeholders from a variety of backgrounds
17. Excellent time management and planning skills
18. Excellentmunication skills, both written and verbal
19. Good IT skills including ability to confidently use MS Office suite
20. Ability and willingness to occasionally work flexible hours including evenings and weekends
21. Self-motivated and able to work on own initiative
22. A strong team player with a collaborative approach and excellent interpersonal skills
Desirable
23. Experience of the collection, curation and interpretation of stories or archive material
24. Experience of managing project budgets
25. Experience of managing third party creative agencies and/or artists
26. Knowledge of the work of Heritage Fund
