About the Role
Crawley currently operates two cemeteries and 20 allotment sites. Little Trees Cemetery on the southern boundary of the town near Pease Pottage and Snell Hatch Cemetery, with allotment sites throughout the town.
As a Cemeteries and Allotments Assistant your main focus will be to support our Allotments Officer in the upkeep and maintenance of our allotment sites. In addition, you will be working as part of a small team responsible for the day-to-day operation of both cemetery sites.

* grass cutting
* clearance of plots
Duties at the cemeteries
* marking out
* digging
* preparing and back-filling graves
* maintaining the high-quality landscaped grounds
Requirements
Proven experience operating plant machinery, hedge cutters, strimmers and ride‑on mowers; a full and current UK driving licence (category B). Experience or certification to operate a small 360‑degree digger and a small dumper, or willingness to train and pass certification within six months of start date. Excellent verbal communication skills and a high degree of emotional intelligence and empathy to interact with customers and the public appropriately. Satisfactory clearance of a basic Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.
Additional Information
The post holder will be required to take part in a roster to cover weekend and bank holiday burials as part of a standby rota for Saturday burials (category C) for which an additional payment will be made.
