About The Role:
As an Information Systems & Support Technician, you will be part of our Information Services department. The Information Services department underpins SMT’s global operations by delivering secure, reliable, and scalable digital infrastructure. We manage the full lifecycle of technology hardware and software, support frontline and remote users, secure digital identities, and ensure the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of our systems. Our department plays a critical role in enabling innovation and operational continuity across the business.
This role plays a key part in facilitating on-site requirements for IT support and the continuous improvement of systems and services through on-site technical assistance, documentation, and collaboration, with a focus on frontline support for Windows, Hyper-V and Microsoft 365 environments. You will report directly to the Head of Information Services and may occasionally be required to travel to our other UK sites in Nottingham and Milton Keynes.
Key Responsibilities:
Technical Support: Provide technical support and troubleshooting for end-users, ensuring timely resolution of issues and assist in the installation, configuration, and maintenance of IT equipment and software.
Documentation: Create and maintain documentation and knowledge base articles for system configurations, processes and procedures, and end-user training and support.
Compliance: Ensure systems and processes comply with company policies and industry regulations. Stay up to date and compliant with relevant legislation and enterprise governance with particular attention to the requirements of Information Security, Data Protection and Quality policies and practices.
Helping Hand: Act as a helping hand to senior team members by supporting the execution of directed tasks on site, contributing to collaborative service delivery.
Champion Information Security: Champion information security by leading through example, identifying misconfigurations, triaging and escalating security issues, delivering training on best practices, and consistently complying with company security governance.
IT Projects: Collaborate with other IT team members to implement and support IT projects.
Training: Conduct training sessions for peers and end users on information systems, software applications and operational processes.
Continuous Improvement: Plan and execute system and process enhancements, improvements, integrations and upgrades to improve operational efficiency and security.
Collaboration: Work closely with colleagues and relevant service providers to ensure seamless, effective and efficient integration of systems and processes.
Other: Maintain a first-class level of service ensuring that all users are treated professionally and efficiently.
Self-learning, keeping knowledge up to date on new technologies and best practices which may be beneficial to service improvement.
Support IS audit, assurance and other compliance focused tasks.
What You’ll Need To Succeed:
* At least three years’ experience working in an IT service function, in an IT Support or IT Engineering role (or less if you have an IT related degree).
* Knowledge of and competence in the use of Microsoft products including Windows, Hyper-V and 365.
* Experience creating knowledge base articles and process documentation.
* Strong written and oral communication skills.
* Ability to use initiative and judgement and remain calm when working under pressure.
* Ability to demonstrate a motivated, proactive, and helpful approach to work.
* Basic IT certifications, particularly Microsoft certifications are highly desirable for this role.
* Experience with Linux (RedHat, Ubuntu, SUSE), and quality and/or security standards such as ISO 9001 and ISO 27001, would be beneficial but is not a hard requirement.
