DWP Digital with Purpose is looking for a Senior Technical Architect to join our community of tech experts. We use fresh ideas and leading‑edge technology to build digital solutions used by nearly every person in the UK. The Skills, Knowledge and Experience You Need
* Architecture design across on‑prem, cloud and hybrid environments involving networking, security, presentation, middleware, database, and integration aspects.
* Architecture design informed through use of principles, patterns, technical radars, practices and standards.
* Architecture design working with project delivery teams within agile, waterfall and hybrid environments throughout the lifecycle – from concept to go‑live.
* Translating business requirements into technical solutions with traceability that can be demonstrated to stakeholders.
* Architecture design through use of architecture modelling techniques and tools to devise and represent.
* Microservice and API‑led architecture and integration design tools, techniques and best practice.
* Event‑based architecture design, patterns (including pub‑sub and data streaming), modelling techniques, tools and standards.
* Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS), Platform as a Service (PaaS), Serverless and Function as a Service and managing cloud resources for scalability, performance, and cost‑efficiency.
What you will do
This Senior Technical Architect role gives you the opportunity to work on one of the largest digital transformations in Europe. You will design modern IT architecture that directly supports millions of people through user‑friendly digital services, improve citizen interaction with DWP – especially contact channels and document management – and ensure data security and compliance with legal frameworks. You will provide expert advice, create solution options across cloud, hybrid and on‑prem environments, and use modern design principles, modelling techniques, microservices, APIs and event‑based architectures.
Details
Location: You will work in one of our digital hubs in Birmingham, Blackpool, Leeds, Manchester, Newcastle‑upon‑Tyne or Sheffield. Regular travel between hubs is expected and is paid as working time.
Working pattern: Hybrid – 40 % home, 60 % hub.
Pay: Up to £83,917, including a Government Digital and Data Allowance.
Pension: Civil Service pension with employer contributions of 28.97 % (≈£16,786 per year).
Holidays: 26 days rising to 31 days over time, plus public holidays; up to 3 extra days off a month on flexi‑time.
