Head of Department – Maths (teaching Business Studies)
Salary: UPS + TLR (dependent on experience and responsibilities)
Full-time, Permanent | Start Date: January 2026 or sooner (negotiable)
Are you a passionate and experienced Maths educator ready to lead and inspire the next generation of mathematicians? Herne Bay High School is seeking an outstanding and visionary Head of Maths to lead our high-performing department in delivering engaging, challenging, and forward-thinking education.
This is a unique opportunity to help shape the strategic direction of the Mathematics curriculum within a supportive and ambitious school community. Alongside helping to lead Maths, you will also contribute to the delivery of Business Studies teaching. You will lead a committed team of teachers, driving high standards and ensuring every student reaches their full potential, alongsode the Head of Faculty.
What We’re Looking For:
1. A dynamic and inspiring teacher of Mathematics (with the ability to also teach Business Studies).
2. A proven track record of excellent classroom practice and strong subject knowledge.
3. Experience of leading a team, or the readiness to step into a leadership role with vision and confidence.
4. A passion for curriculum innovation and developing teaching and learning.
5. A results-driven professional committed to student success, including outcomes at KS4 and KS5.
6. A collaborative leader who can support and challenge colleagues to improve practice.
What You’ll Be Doing:
7. Providing strategic and operational leadership for the Maths department.
8. Leading curriculum development and driving high-quality teaching and learning.
9. Mentoring and developing staff, including performance management and CPD planning.
10. Monitoring pupil progress and implementing interventions to close gaps.
11. Supporting the delivery of Business Studies lessons where required.
12. Contributing to whole-school initiatives and playing an active role in the extended leadership team.
