Overview
Quality Control Team Lead - Tannochside. Macphie is an internationally acclaimed family ingredient manufacturer with sites in Glenbervie, Glasgow, Tannochside, and the Midlands. Responsibilities
* Lead and oversee the Quality Control function, ensuring effective day-to-day operation, resource planning, and adequate QC cover across all areas.
* Ensure QC staff are trained, competent, and maintain up-to-date skills.
* Collaborate with Production Team Leaders to investigate quality and production issues, customer complaints, and non-conformances; perform root cause analysis and complete NCRs with corrective actions recorded on the IFS system.
* Manage scheduled shelf-life testing and hygiene audits in line with required standards.
* Arrange shift patterns for QC staff and maintain adequate cover; conduct disciplinary procedures per the company handbook.
* Make product quality decisions, release finished/factored/raw material goods within specification, and, when appropriate, authorize pre-QC release after risk assessment.
* In conjunction with Production/Quality Management, stop production if quality/safety/pack integrity concerns arise.
* Prevent use of faulty equipment outside specification when not calibrated.
* Prioritize investigations of customer complaints, non-conformances, and product quality concerns; ensure root cause is identified and corrective actions prevent recurrence.
* Complete HACCP and internal audits per schedule; report compliance/non-compliance and record results on the IFS system; verify effectiveness of corrective actions and update SOPs/training records as needed.
* Monitor average weight/volume to ensure compliance with legal requirements; maintain stock and consumables; coordinate routine hygiene monitoring with relevant leads.
* Conduct regular shadow audits, test equipment calibration, and assist with HACCP implementation and product recalls as required.
* Assist with investigation and response to product complaints; trend data to identify issues and implement actions; manage sensory evaluations as needed.
* Suggest improvements to testing methods and equipment; perform other duties as assigned and work safely under H&S policies.
Requirements
* Experience in production/quality management and manufacturing processes; supervisory experience preferred.
* Excellent communication skills across stakeholders; strong and confident presentation abilities.
* Experience leading external audits and understanding BRC and retailer requirements.
* Robust management skills with the ability to lead technical teams; experience with trend analysis, root cause analysis, and preventative actions for customer complaints and non-conformances.
* Knowledge of QA/QC systems, including QMS delivery, training, and compliance; familiarity with HACCP, IFS, and related records.
* Understanding of food safety, labeling legislation, supply chains, and non-conformances.
