Introduction
Jodrell Bank Observatory (JBO), inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in July 2019, is part of The University of Manchester, which is one of the largest single-site universities in the UK, with a large student community. Jodrell Bank is renowned for the 76-metre Lovell Telescope, conceived by Sir Bernard Lovell, which has become an icon of British science and engineering and a landmark in Cheshire. The telescope plays a key role in research on pulsars and tests of Einstein's General Theory of Relativity.
In 2011, Jodrell Bank Observatory was shortlisted for UK World Heritage Site status, recognizing its importance in astronomical research. It hosts the e-MERLIN array of seven radio telescopes across the UK, connected by a high-speed optical fibre network, making it one of the most powerful telescope arrays globally.
We are seeking an enthusiastic and proactive Senior Technician to join our technical operations team. The role involves working in all weather conditions, sometimes physically demanding tasks, and providing technical support for teaching, research, and professional services. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to world-leading scientific research at Jodrell Bank.
What you will get in return:
* Market-leading pension scheme
* Employee health and wellbeing services, including an Employee Assistance Programme
* Generous annual leave entitlement plus bank holidays
* Paid closure over Christmas
* Discounts at major retailers
