Head of Control Systems Engineering Midlands – 2 Days WFH | Half-Day Friday £90,000 – £110,000 10% Bonus £900/m Car or Car Allowance VIQU have partnered with a well-established engineering manufacturer in their seach for a Head of Control Systems p osition. With a long heritage, strong financial backing and a reputation for quality, they offer an environment where engineering excellence and innovation genuinely matter. This is a senior leadership position overseeing the organisations full Control Systems capability, leading three interlinked functions— Systems, Software, and Electrical/Harness Engineering —totalling around 30 engineers, each supported by an experienced Team Lead. The role is a balanced blend of strategy, technical oversight, and delivery leadership. The Role You will own and develop the capability to design, build and deliver safe, compliant and reliable control, software and electrical systems across complex specialist vehicles and equipment. Key responsibilities include: Leading the Control Systems strategy and contributing to wider engineering and product planning. Coaching and developing Team Leads across Systems, Software and Electrical disciplines. Conducting a comprehensive review of current tools, processes and engineering maturity, identifying gaps and driving improvements. Ensuring compliance with industry standards including functional safety and cybersecurity frameworks. Overseeing system architecture, requirements definition, validation, HIL/SIL processes, and final signoff. Acting as a visible, approachable, and supportive leader able to influence experienced engineering teams. What Theyre Looking For Strong background delivering control systems within automotive, off-highway, heavy equipment, specialist vehicles or related sectors. Deep understanding of control systems toolchains, V-Model development, verification & validation, HIL/SIL, and electrified drivelines. Proven experience leading multi-disciplinary engineering teams and developing technical leaders. Degree in Electrical, Electronics or Mechanical Engineering with extensive experience in relevant environments. Someone passionate, curious, and confident enough to challenge existing engineering practice and drive modernisation.
