The James Paget University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is seeking to appoint a Consultant Paediatrician. The Consultant will have responsibility for providing an Acute and Community Paediatric service in conjunction with other consultant colleagues.
This post is offered under the terms and conditions of service of the new contract.

Main duties of the job
To provide in conjunction with Consultant colleagues Acute and Community Paediatric services for the Trust. 50% each.
The appointee will be expected to hold CCT in General Paediatrics or be within 6 months of attaining it. The appointee will need to be experienced and capable of running independent clinics in General (Acute) Paediatrics and Community Paediatrics.

The Trust provides comprehensive acute care for the population of Great Yarmouth, Lowestoft and the South Waveney area and for many visitors to the area. This acute care provided from the James Paget University Hospital site at Gorleston is supported by other community services at the Newberry Centre, Kirkley Rise North Lowestoft and outreach clinics.
The Trust serves a population of approximately 230,000. We are a University Hospital with a medical school, training the next generation of health professionals and developing research.
The Hospital is based in the coastal town of Gorleston between the resorts of Great Yarmouth and Lowestoft. Other coastal resorts such as Southwold, Caister and Hemsby also lie within the Trust's catchment area along with several Broadland villages/towns such as Beccles, Acle and Oulton Broad. The historic city of Norwich is a short journey away. The North Norfolk coast and Southern Suffolk coast are also within easy reach.

Job responsibilities
Share with consultant colleagues the Acute and Community Paediatric workload.
Provide with the other consultants a mutual out of hours cover for annual, study and professional leave.
Out of hours/Weekend responsibilities are 1 in 22 weeknights and weekends on call
Hot week responsibilities are 1 in 11 alternating ward and Neonatal hot weeks
Provision with Consultant colleagues of the James Paget University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, with responsibility for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of illness and the proper functioning of the department
To conduct Neurodevelopmental (ND) clinics as part of a ND team.
Provide support to ADHD specialists at the Newbery Child Developmental Centre.
Professional supervision and management of junior medical staff
Responsibilities for carrying out teaching, examination and accreditation duties as required and for contributing to undergraduate, postgraduate and continuing medical education activity, locally and nationally
Participating in medical audit, the Trusts Clinical Governance processes and in CPD
Involvement in research
Managerial, including budgetary, responsibilities where appropriate
Where it is agreed between the parties, work on behalf of James Paget University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust or services provided by the Trust for other agencies, e.g. the prison service.
Person Specification
Education and Qualifications
Essential
1. MBBS or Basic Medical Degree
2. MRCPCH, MRCP or equivalent
3. CCT and/or inclusion on the Specialist Register of GMC or within 6 months of completion of training at the date of interview.
4. Full GMC Registration
Experience & Knowledge
Essential
5. Ability to provide expert clinical opinion across a wide range of problems within the specialty of Acute and Community Paediatrics
6. Neonatal experience - minimum six months during ST 4-8
7. Ability to organise and prioritise work effectively
8. Able to plan and develop the service
9. Willingness to participate in and lead a multi disciplinary team, balancing departmental and personal objectives
10. Valid Level 3 Safeguarding Training

11. Experience of committee work/project management
12. To be able to conduct Neurodevelopmental clinics as part of a ND team.
