A bit about the role
As part of our National Lottery Community Fund programme, we’re looking for a dedicated Children’s Services Manager to join our team. In this role, you’ll lead the delivery and ongoing development of specialist support for young people affected by Child Criminal Exploitation (CCE).
You’ll be responsible for coordinating and guiding practitioners to ensure consistently high‑quality, trauma‑informed practice. A key part of the role involves strengthening partnerships across agencies, influencing effective multi‑agency responses, and driving continuous improvement in how services identify and respond to exploitation.
The Children’s Services Manager will also contribute directly to frontline work with young people and families when needed, providing oversight, expertise, and reflective support. You’ll lead on gathering evidence, insights, and learning from the service, helping to shape practice development, inform strategic decisions, and contribute to wider policy and systems change.
Key responsibilities
* Coordinate and oversee the day‑to‑day delivery of the CCE service, ensuring high‑quality support.
* Support practitioners to deliver workshops, one‑to‑one sessions, and wider engagement with young people and families.
* Provide direct input on complex or high‑risk cases, ensuring young people’s voices are central to decision‑making.
* Monitor, record, and analyse data to meet reporting requirements, inform partners, and drive practice improvement.
* Build strong multi‑agency partnerships, representing the service in meetings and promoting safeguarding best practice.
* Manage records, scheduling, and communication to ensure smooth and effective service operations.
* Represent the organisation at a strategic level, contributing to service development and influencing positive systems change.
* Deliver clear, up‑to‑date presentations and information to strategic and partnership audiences.
Requirements
* Strong leadership, coordination, and organisational abilities, with confidence in supporting staff and facilitating groups.
* Effective communicator, able to engage young people, families, and multi‑agency professionals, including presenting at strategic levels.
* Skilled in evidence gathering, reporting, and analysis, with a solid understanding of information‑sharing processes.
* Knowledge and experience in safeguarding, risk assessment, and maintaining professional boundaries.
* Flexible, reflective team player committed to young people’s wellbeing and continuous improvement.
* Currently holds — or is willing to work towards — a relevant qualification, with a commitment to ongoing professional development.
Diversity, Equality and Inclusion
We work hard to create an inclusive environment where individuality is celebrated and where everyone feels valued and supported. We actively encourage applications from people with Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic backgrounds and people with a disability, as these groups are under‑represented within Action for Children. Men are currently under‑represented within our Children Service roles; we encourage men to apply for any of our Children Service roles. Women from Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic backgrounds are under‑represented in our senior roles; we encourage candidates from these backgrounds to apply.
