We have an exciting opportunity for an NGS and Spatial Omics Assistant to join the NGS Core Facility team in the Cambridge Stem Cell Institute. CSCI is a world-leading centre for stem cell research based in the Jeffrey Cheah Biomedical Centre on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus.
We are seeking a self-motivated, reliable and well-trained Genomics Assistant to join the Stem Cell Institute's Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) core facility. This facility supports the general NGS needs of our researchers and is currently expanding into delivering spatial genomics services.
You will be responsible for performing a wide variety of bulk and single cell NGS protocols, as well as spatial transcriptomics processes on 10X Visium CytAssist..
You will work closely with the Facility Manager to ensure the smooth running of the NGS facility, and collaborate with colleagues in the Imaging and Histology core facilities to help develop and support spatial omics pipelines.
Routine tasks will include coordinating and planning incoming bulk, single cell, and spatial projects, receiving samples from facility users, performing a wide variety of NGS library preparations, implementing and establishing new protocols, managing specialised equipment such as Chromium X and Visium CytAssist, providing expert technical advice to our users, liaising with customers about their results, and general lab maintenance such as safety, sample tracking and ordering.
You will be an experienced molecular biologist with a degree or equivalent in a biological science, superior laboratory skills in molecular biology, extensive practical experience and theoretical knowledge of conventional and single cell NGS technologies, and have a good understanding of the latest spatial transcriptomics developments. Prior experience of cell culture would be advantageous but experience in stem cell biology is not necessary. You should be confident working independently, to research, learn and apply new techniques, and troubleshoot and optimise protocols.
You will have demonstrable organizational, documentation and time management skills, together with experience supporting a variety of research projects in a core environment or support role. The ability to work as part of a team and communicate effectively with all levels of staff is essential.
