Job Summary

Interviews for this post will be announced shortly, so please keep an eye on this page. You will be required to attend the interview in person on the scheduled day. There will be a pre-interview engagement day the day before, where you will have the opportunity to meet with various stakeholders.

Health and Care Jersey is seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and dynamic substantive Consultant in Renal Medicine. The successful application will be the lead for Renal Medicine, supported by a middle grade and a team of specialist nurses to provide a comprehensive service in renal medicine. The successful applicant must be dual accredited in nephrology and GIM.

The successful candidate will have broad experience of inpatient and outpatient in all aspect of nephrological practice and fully competent in diagnostics and therapeutics. The applicant will undertake Inpatient specialist reviews of patients under the care of other disciplines.

For newly appointed consultants a mentor will be allocated to support their induction to the post.

There are dedicated medical secretaries supporting the Consultant and their team. The Consultant will have a shared office space with IT facilities shared across Consultants from other specialities.


Core Responsibilities

* Continue to jointly develop a service of excellence for Renal Medicine which ensures a seamless integration between Jersey and tertiary centres in England.
* Participate in the ongoing development of a Renal strategy for the island of Jersey.
* To work in close partnership and liaison with Primary Care and other specialist services.
* To undertake inpatient specialist reviews for Renal Medicine. To undertake outpatient clinics for Renal Medicine.
* Provide diagnostic and appropriate interventional services.
* To provide clinical advice & support to primary care colleagues and other Consultants within Health and Care Jersey medical model.
* To deliver personalised, evidence informed medical care plans to all patients that are appropriately documented and regularly evaluated.
* To provide advice and timely medical reviews and interventions as part of the interdisciplinary model of care.
* To participate and attend relevant services MDTs.
* To liaise with tertiary referral centres as appropriate to provide patient centred care & service improvements.
* Maintain good quality up to date medical records including timely discharge letters and summaries.
* To ensure appropriate documentation and coding is used to provide consistent audit and monitoring of the service.
* To adhere to local prescribing guidelines.
* The post holder should be adaptable, flexible and innovative to meet the ongoing challenges within the service.

Qualifications

* Primary Medical Degree
* Higher Specialty Qualification: MRCP or equivalent
* Full Registration with the General Medical Council (GMC) with a license to practice (for overseas candidates it is mandatory that a license is obtained prior to appointment)
* Inclusion on the GMC Specialist Register/Certificate if Completion of Training (CCT) or equivalent in renal or be within 6 months of obtaining this the date of the interview documentary evidence of this must be provided to support your application.
* Clinical Experience in similar NHS environment or equivalent
* ALS
* Evidence of adequate training and/or experience as CCDC
* Applicants that are non-UK trained, will be required to show evidence of equivalence to the UK CCT
* Broad range of IT skills


Experience

* Broad experience in Nephrology


Desirable

* Higher degree, e.g. MD/PHD
* Enthusiastic Teacher
* Previous Management Responsibility / Leadership Experience
* Recognised period of work in acute transplantation
