Role Overview
The Teacher of Art (Maternity Cover) will deliver high quality lessons that lead directly to excellent student outcomes and contribute to curriculum development and the wider life of the school.
Key Responsibilities
* Implement and deliver an appropriately broad, balanced, relevant, and differentiated curriculum for students.
* Monitor and support the overall progress and development of students as a Teacher/Tutor.
* Facilitate and encourage a learning experience that enables students to achieve their individual potential.
* Contribute to raising standards of student attainment.
* Share and support the school’s responsibility to provide and monitor opportunities for personal and academic growth.
* Undertake a designated programme of teaching across all key stages.
* Teach Food Technology and DT lessons.
* Teach consistently high‑quality lessons.
* Plan and deliver schemes of work and lessons that meet KS3, KS4, and KS5 requirements.
* Be a role‑model for students, inspiring interest in the subject.
* Maintain appropriate records and provide accurate, up‑to‑date information for Bromcom and registers.
* Complete documentation for tracking student progress.
* Set expectations for staff and students concerning standards of achievement and quality of learning and teaching.
* Prioritise and manage time effectively, ensuring continued professional development.
* Follow school policies and procedures.
* Ensure efficient use of classroom support.
* Maintain discipline in accordance with procedures, encouraging punctuality, behaviour, standards of work, and homework.
* Update professional knowledge and keep abreast of developments in teaching practice.
* Lead, monitor, and evaluate assessment and feedback to students.
* Follow monitoring and tracking systems for students’ attainment, progress, and achievement.
* Mark, grade, and give written, verbal, and diagnostic feedback.
* Assess students as requested by external examination bodies.
* Record and report on attendance, progress, development, and attainment.
* Use department policy for tracking student progress and inform learning and teaching.
* Coordinate assessment arrangements for all Key Stages and standardise as required.
* Be a tutor to an assigned group, promoting progress and well‑being.
* Liaise with pastoral leaders to implement the Student Support system.
* Register students, accompany to assemblies, encourage full attendance and participation.
* Monitor progress and maintain up‑to‑date records.
* Alert staff to student problems.
* Communicate with parents and external bodies regarding student welfare.
* Apply the Behaviour Policy for effective learning.
* Meet with concerned students and contact home where necessary.
Qualifications
* Hold at least five GCSEs or equivalent, including at least a Grade C/5 in Maths and English.
* Hold a recognised degree (or equivalent) with a good classification in a relevant subject, and a teaching qualification (QTS).
* Evidence of independent personal development and wide reading of the latest research.
* Excellent classroom practitioner.
* Ability to teach the subject up to Key Stage 4.
* Desire to raise overall achievement in the subject, promoting the highest standards of teaching and learning.
* Detailed knowledge of current curriculum and pedagogical developments in teaching the subject and the wider curriculum.
